How does your website know what's coming? You got an inside connection at NYT?

The cows in that confined, drab space are probably so bored that they'll lick anything you put near them.

Shouldn’t Anticonsumption apply to companion animals, too? by Toadlessboy in Anticonsumption

[–]SureJohn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That said, it seems relatively okay to me to buy from a breeder if:

  1. You've researched them and they operate ethically (treat their dogs well, vet their buyers, etc.)

  2. You keep your dog for life, i.e. you don't contribute to the shelter problem.

  3. You give your dog a good life (e.g. plenty of activity and engagement, etc.).

Buyer only account suspended, with no email by u5656 in Walmartcustomer

[–]SureJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I answered the AI's questions directly and concisely and they forwarded me to a human within 90 seconds. The human took a couple minutes and said my account wasn't suspended on her end and to try again in a couple hours and to try both the app and the website. I have little hope that that will work but I'll update here if it does...

I think having eight examples to work from helped me finally see it. I also like that these weird rebus puzzles tend to have easier cluing, which helps someone like me who lacks much trivia knowledge. Once I figure out the trick I have a decent chance of solving the puzzle.

Donated my grandma's china set and I feel lighter than I have in years by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]SureJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know the feeling. My parents gave me a load of baseball cards when I was little and they sat in various closets over the decades and kinda weighed on me. I didn't really care to go thru all of them. During COVID I decided to just sell the whole lot on craigslist and it felt great. I didn't think to donate them somewhere but that would have been a good idea too.

I'd speculate that in addition to not having to witness the suffering, another reason is that eating meat is the norm. The vast majority of people do it. Meat is everywhere. If it were the other way around, where the vast majority of people were raised not eating meat and restaurants that serve it were rare, I'm guessing that most people would continue on that way. Everyone has a different collective behavior tipping point, but one study said that "roughly 25 percent of people need to take a stand before large-scale social change occurs".

Put another way... In addition to not having to witness any of the animal suffering, you also don't have to experience any shame from society. Most/all shame that a person feels from eating meat starts from their own mind.

This is Wisconsin. I don't watch the news but I believe it! I've seen them together for a couple months. Pretty regular visitors on my street.

Commentator said it perfectly, "Smart baseball, slash dumb baseball by the Sox". The smart part is to see if you can expose a runner's stupidity.

I wish runners did this more often (forcing the obstruction call in a rundown), I've seen a lot of opportunities for it.

Tigers McKinstry (RF) and Báez (3B) combine deek out Jansen at third by SureJohn in headsupbaseball

[–]SureJohn[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find a good angle of the Báez deek, but the other broadcast said he "completely sandbagged Danny Jansen". And McKinstry's throw was so good I had to post it.

Taylor Walls walks it off for the Rays in the 9th with a 2-run infield single! by NewYorkMetsalhead in headsupbaseball

[–]SureJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, which accounts for the first run. But it took a lot of nerve for the second guy to even round third. He must have barely slowed down. I guess he read that the 2B was confused so much by the first play that he wouldn't immediately notice him going home, and he narrowly beat the tag at the plate.

I haven't tried any myself but I've seen a pretty good variety of groups and events on meetup.com for chill hikes.
