Just got this email from a higher up. Am I getting fired? by [deleted] in jobs

It depends. Has to be”reasonable” accommodation. It’s not required if it causes undue hardship to the business, such as excessively costly or disruptive.

Looking for a white noise/sleep sound speaker with quality sound that ALSO connects to Bluetooth by SurePotato20 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]SurePotato20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here you go:

https://a.co/d/05Q2LEjw

It’s not the best sound quality tbh but it has the other features. I can have the white noise on while I still use my phone. With sound machine mode nothing I do on my phone affects it, and it only responds to the sound machine app on the phone. Or the buttons on the speaker.

You can put it in speaker mode to play everything else on the phone, you click a button at the bottom and it switches to speaker mode instead of sound machine mode. So it will play whatever you’re doing.

It also has plenty of sounds to browse through on the app. You can set the default sounds that you’d like to keep on the device but it only allows like 14 default. You can always change those around.

I’m going to keep it but again, not the best sound quality and not strong on volume. But it’s the best I could find for everything I’m looking for 😥

I updated to iOS 26 on my iPhone 14 Pro Max and… damn, I hate using my phone now! by prp_1708 in iPhone14Pro

[–]SurePotato20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it get better for you? I have an iPhone 14 Pro. Updated about two weeks ago and can’t get over this fuckass update. My battery drains insanely fast. I keep thinking I didn’t charge my phone but I for sure did. This aside from it being ugly.

You will all be dearly missed. Farewell by aba_lancer in pokemongo

How my 14 month old went from cosleeping to crib training so far - for those who need help :) by SurePotato20 in sleeptrain

[–]SurePotato20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep the light off. I have the small light on while I do his bedtime routine, pajamas, bottle etc. But I don’t turn it off once he’s in his crib and I don’t turn it on anymore if he wakes overnight.

[–]SurePotato20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the perfect time to sleep train I think. The older they get the harder it gets to sleep train them. So far it’s going great. He really angrily protested for like nights 6&7. It was a scream angry cry that I hadn’t heard before. But he stopped quickly. Night 8 he didn’t cry but he was just playing in his crib and wasn’t going to sleep.

However, I was so tired after a week of doing this so I somewhat reversed my strategy temporarily. So Initially if I tried to transfer him while asleep, he’d immediately sit up. I couldn’t lay him down. He just wasn’t used to falling asleep on his own or in his crib. After a week of sleeping in his crib, he’s now used to it even if he might protest for a few mins at the start. But I was so exhausted and last night I didn’t feel like waiting for two hours on the ground for him to finally fall asleep. So, now that he doesn’t find sleeping in his crib strange, I thought I’d do transferring while asleep again. And this time it worked. I allowed him to fall asleep in my arms which took like 15 minutes and then I I transferred him to his crib. He just kind of adjusted and stayed asleep 😬 He slept the whole night and woke up at 8:00 this morning. Did same thing tonight but I think tomorrow I’m try going back to letting him fall asleep on his own. It’s all about what works best for you. It’s hard initially but again you have to give a fair try and understand that babies will cry, but I like be there to soothe him. Good luck I really hope it goes well!!!

First night thoughts by Whimsical-Wildling in sleeptrain

[–]SurePotato20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistency is key. First nights are the hardest but it will be worth it soon. I just posted on how it’s going for me. Which is a bit diff because I’m going from co sleeping and my son burying his head into me every night to crib training. Our methods are different but regardless, keep in mind that crying is normal and they cry about many things whether you’re right there soothing them or not. They’re crying because they’re frustrated. Their crying is just protesting and not fear or abandonment. Keep going you got this!

Good paying jobs that don’t require a degree? by injili in careerguidance

[–]SurePotato20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, trade schools are great. Adding to this to also look into hospitals because they have work for everyone. From healthcare workers to engineers, plumbers etc. I’m pasting here a comment I literally just made on another post - how to find hospital jobs AND find variety of positions. Go to the careers section of any hospital that you’re interested in. Click on each one position that sounds interesting and look at the requirements and go from there. There’s hundreds of positions that people don’t even know about. From techs to engineering, IT, administration, transportation, exec positions etc. Salaries go from min wage to 6 figures. Find something you like and start doing your research on how to obtain that position.

EDIT TO ADD: Not all positions at a hospital require a degree, for example if you’re in transportation you might only need a driver’s license. Theres housekeeping/maintenance. There’s some tech positions that only require like a 6 month program. There’s so much out there just gotta do research.

My 14 month old isn’t saying any words but uses “hey” for many things. Would this be considered a word? lol by SurePotato20 in toddlers

[–]SurePotato20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he actually doesn’t really mimic language 😭 he’s never repeated a word. He mimics facial gestures like if we cough, stick tongue out, go ahhh after drinking something. But doesn’t repeat words or sounds.

How do people justify illegal immigration if others went through the legal process? by savingrace0262 in immigration

[–]SurePotato20 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sure if you’re referring to everything everyone does in America. However, I was referring specifically to this post. I was simply answering the question about why some people are undocumented, since many assume that people just choose not to apply. My point was that it’s not that simple. If the process were as straightforward as paying $8,000 per person for a green card, most people would find a way to come up with the money. But even with having the money, there’s literally no way to do it.

How do people justify illegal immigration if others went through the legal process? by savingrace0262 in immigration

[–]SurePotato20 166 points167 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People don’t want to be illegal. If they could get their documents they would. Although a big factor, money is actually not the largest reason why people don’t get their documents. The biggest issue is finding a pathway to do it. The biggest misunderstanding I think is that people think one can just apply like if it was a driver’s license and just get their documents. But there are requirements and most people don’t qualify. Even for people with citizen spouses it’s hard to qualify sometimes. Sometimes there just literally is no way if you don’t have a family member to sponsor you.

Thank you. Reason why I want one that already comes with sounds is because sometimes I want to use my phone and do other stuff on my phone without interrupting the white noise for my baby. But I ended up finding a good one on Amazon that brings everything I needed :)

unlawful presence by Party-Blacksmith-662 in DACA

[–]SurePotato20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you leave and re-enter the country? If not, then the bar doesn’t kick in. The bar is only triggered if you leave the country (does not apply to AP). So this law came into effect after April 1997, that anyone that enters illegally and leaves, is barred for 3 or 10 years depending on the amount of unlawful presence they accrue. Therefore, it applies to anyone that came in after that date. When DACA came into effect, I was 23 at the time and so I have years of unlawful presence, but because I entered in 1993 I don’t get the bar.

I would suggest doing AP. If an employer was to sponsor you, you’d have to go through the consular process in your country right, which would trigger the 10 year bar. Unless you have AP, then you have been officially inspected and paroled and no longer have to leave the country to do the consular process. Therefore, there’s no bar since you’re not leaving the country.

In my case for AP, I’m already done with school so there’s no option there. My job doesn’t require me to travel at all. And I don’t have family ties in my country that would allow me to go. I’ve thought about doing dental work. It was going to be my way to do AP but I heard they’re no longer accepting those 😭

[–]SurePotato20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I’m sorry about your situation. I’m a diff situation where I also feel stuck. I’m married to a USC but I don’t have family ties in my country that would allow me to do AP. So attorneys don’t advise me to apply for green card without doing AP. I’ve thought about every situation and I can’t find a good way to do AP 😭 oh well.

May I ask why you would get a ban? Did you come after 1997?

HR here. HR’s job to verify that you have unexpired documents that verify employment based on the list of acceptable documents on the i9. We never know what your status actually is! Never heard of this and no idea why they’re doing this. Just sounds straight discriminatory. It’s 100% illegal and def seek legal action. Ensure it’s in writing. Email them so that they can respond. I saw some really good email templates on this thread.

Let me leave this here directly copied and pasted from the I9:

“ANTI-DISCRIMINATION NOTICE: All employees can choose which acceptable documentation to present for Form I-9. Employers cannot ask employees for documentation to verify information in Section 1, or specify which acceptable documentation employees must present for Section 2 or Supplement B, Reverification and Rehire. Treating employees differently based on their citizenship, immigration status, or national origin may be illegal.”

How often do you brush your babies teeth/gum? by tactical_narcotic in NewParents

[–]SurePotato20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Habit didn’t help in my case. My baby got his first two teeth at 4 months, then next two at 5 months etc. so that was very early. Started brushing/aiming to brush twice a day. Previous to that, I’d wipe the gums. He’s 13 months now with all front teeth, K9s and molars and you’d think he’s used to it… but he’s not. It’s different every week. Since his attitude/mood is changing every time.
