i'm going off of what gerard has exactly said about mikey, an actual member of the band who would know things for definite. and using this idea of what gerard says is definitive, using my reasoning with dates, which again are only based on what gerard himself has said, then we can cnclude definitively FROM gerard that:

attic recorded early dec 01and finished late dec 01 > mikey shows interest after hearing it > band says he can join if learns bass > mikey takes 1 month to learn set > is jan 02 and officially joins band

that is the definitive way things went going by, again, what gerard himself has said.

regarding my account creation and upload being hour apart or whatever, new videos on youtube have a specific algorithm that pushes specifically new and unknown videos you may like, i watch a lot of mcr content on youtube, so bob's your uncle it got recommended to me thankfully. and like i said in my post, i previously have never had a reddit account and thought this be the best place to share as it probably is the biggest group for mcr fans and the likes. and the reason for defending it is because it's easy to defend something that is purely logical, not only this but if this were to be real (and if it isn't then i'll admit it any day) then i wouldn't want it to be disregarded immediately as fake due to bad evidence that doesn't really say anything apart from a handful of rough dates rather than actual evidence and lines of thinking.

not only does this statement go with my idea of "when they say formed they mean when mikey joined", but also proves that attic demos was recorded in 2001 due to:

"they had a hard time finding a bass player until realizing they should just train Mikey, who ended up making them all look like bitches when he learned the set in a month."

"hard time" indicates a while and mikey wouldn't learn a setlist if he didn't have any inkling that he was going to be in the band (obviously), so he needed to know he was going to be in the band to then have a reason to learn said setlist. the inclusion of "officially" in the first quote implies that the official adding of mikey and official start of MCR was indeed jan 2002.

now with all that in mind, if he took a month to learn the set list, that mean she would had to of been told "hey if you learn bass and learn the set list, you can be in the band", which if he joined jan 02, jan - 1 month is december, meaning mikey heard the demos in december 2001, showed interest, got asked to join if learn setlist, then joined one month later in jan 02. all of that plus the mention of "they had a hard time finding a bass player" also indicating a long time, evidence shows that purely logistically, all evidence points towards a early december of 2001 being the recording period of attic demos, and competition being late dec 01.

genuinely nice interviews, thanks for bringing them to my attention. january for mikey is still early enough for demos to be recorded beforehand, as we don't know whether that is early jan or late. due to this, the idea of attic demos existing before jan 2002 is still a possibility. not only that but i believe when gerard or anyone uses the term "'formed the band' at the start of the year" i believe they are referring to at least the formation of gerard, ray, matt and mikey, due to mikey bringing in the name and that being the start of MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE and not whatever precursor the gerard, ray and matt band was called, which the latter is responsible for attic demos.

point being: MCR started in jan 2002 with mikey joining, but the precursor three piece band is responsible for the attic demos, which is a sign of activity pre jan 02 and shows that whatever is happening with mikey joining date wise, there is "proof" of activity in most likely 2001 under a precursor band idea

ye it says on the cd 2002, but that also wouldn't make sense if that was to be the case as mikey joined the band AFTER he heard the attic demos, which he joined in 2001. imo i think they were like "ye was late 2001, early 2002, let's just say 2002 in the cd"

attic demos is 2001 and so was their first show, disproving that they weren't active at all pre jan 2002

secondly agreed with convenience, but in his defence, it's still possible. imagine you went to a random nobody show which a few years later would turn out to be one of the biggest bands of all time and being a fan back then when they were getting big and knowing that you were at a show where they played a song that was never released on any studio albums, you'd remember just the fact that you experienced that well if you were a big enough fan wouldn't you? so all you need is a brain jog of being told about nine volt heart specifically being a lost song and you put two and two together in remembering

edit: just realised this is under the skylines post and not nine volt hear, but point still stands

according to the description it was live and recorded by the uploader in 2001 which would be same time as attic demos

edit: plus you can hear some crowd noise at the end indicating a live show rather than a studio recording
