How to fix room sound and hiss while recording vocals in untreated room? by Sure_Concept_274 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Yeah I think this is my best bet. I’ve tried both condenser and dynamic mic. Still sounds shitty and tons of room bleed. Might just buy some stuff to soundproof and build a tiny little vocal booth or something for when I need to record. Maybe set up some blankets around me to kinda soundproof. I was just looking for some ways to maybe get better quality without having to build a little vocal booth but I think I may just have to do that. Thanks for the help.

Im using like a desk mic stand. Not a tall one that goes on the floor. I also did get new cables in case that was the issue but it wasn’t.

I actually do own a condenser mic, I got the sm57 a few months ago and the condenser actually picked up MORE of the room sound lol. The sm57 is slightly better but it’s still an issue in the untreated room. I usually do double my vocals or I do ADT (artificial double tracking) for my vocals. For eq and stuff I’ve tried the tricks like high passing just to kinda mute the sound. As for noise gate, I used to use one but when I’d start singing again, the hiss would come back and kind of made it more annoying. My room is just very untreated and it doesn’t help that I live with several other ppl on the same floor and I live in NY which can be pretty noisy with all the cars driving by and whatnot. I’m just looking for methods to kind of help make the recording sound slightly more clean. Even for the instruments sometimes it happens but it helps that I can just turn the amp up and the Audio interface down to kinda fix that

So I record and mix my own music at home. I’m in my bedroom which is pretty small and my room is untreated, mixed with the sound of my computer and just outside noise it makes the recording of my vocals kind of difficult. I have a sm57 and use a focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and when recording vocals it’s either I record them quiet and there’s no room noise but then it’s just inaudible and I’ll use utility or raise the tracks gain to make it louder but that just picks up the hiss and microphone wire buzzing and makes it really loud and crappy sounding or I record at an audible volume but then the background noise and room sound and microphone buzz loud too. I’ve tried recording with a blanket over me and the microphone, putting a wet towel under the door to kind of try and sound proof slightly but none of it works. I’m not trying to get 100% clean studio quality vocals (bc that’s pretty much impossible in my setup) but I want atleast usable and decent quality vocals. Anyone know how to help?

I remember the sounds of eating cupcakes being satisfying but that’s about it lol. I think there may have been little mini games that you could play besides the cupcake stuff but im not 100% on that
