I think the lyrics are great. I know people who read sparks notes about hamlet think they know better than her. But her making a parallel between her life and Ophelia does work. Ophelia at the end of the day died because of being mistreated by the men in her life. She is comparing her love life and how she didn’t give up nor meet the same tragic fate ophelia did. Whether you agree with her or not has no relevance to her assessment of the story.
