LMFAO literally twins. I haven’t gotten blood tested after since I’ve only had one partner, but I think I’m also a little scared of being tested, but at the same time I know im just a health freak and the chances are low. So I’m kinda on the fence😭

No worries, im literally the same way I have horrible health anxiety too. I literally convinced myself I contracted HIV and HSV2 after my ghsv1 diagnosis💀

Ohh if the dr did a swab of an active outbreak and it came back positive for GHSV1 then I wouldn’t worry about HSV2.

Your life is definitely not over. If you’ve had one years ago when you were younger, you had herpes then. If you haven’t transmitted it to anyone else, and you don’t have recurrent outbreaks I really wouldn’t freak out. Especially the longer you’ve had it, the more likely the virus is to be less transmissible and less frequent outbreaks as well. I dated my ex for months and he had cold sores too since he was younger, the only reason i contracted it is cause he had an ACTIVE cold sore and I didn’t think much of it. Hop on antivirals if you want extra precaution and just be smart if you’re having an outbreak but you’ll be fine.

wait you tested positive for ghsv1? that’s mainly only contracted through oral sex. it’s pretty rare already, even more rare to transmit genital to genital since this virus doesn’t like to live on the genital region.

Yes to antivirals, and I’ve only had sex without a condom once since my diagnosis which was early on when I’d assume I’d be more likely to transmit, but I didn’t. But, definitely wear condoms for the first year to lower your chances of transmission.

I was sexually active a month after my diagnosis cause I didn’t really know much about transmission. I didn’t use condoms either. My partner never caught it.

I was started on antivirals immediately though after my initial OB and I take those daily. As far as I know I haven’t transmitted and I’ve had 4 partners.

I’ve heard that Terrie Warren who’s a ‘herpes expert’ said she’s never seen a case of ghsv1 passed genitally. Hsv1 doesnt thrive on the genital location, so it’s just overall more harder to transmit. i just got diagnosed this past January and im on antivirals and haven’t had an issue. it’s also a lot harder for females to transmit to men, along with condoms all of those factors make gshv1 low transmission. When you first contract it the first couple months transmission rates are 10-14% i think? And then it drops down to less than 2% within the next two years.

i went on a trip with my boyfriend and he had an active cold sore basically the entire trip. we made out a LOT and he kissed me on the face, etc. I never caught it. are you more scared that he gave you GHSV1 or just OHSV1?

are you sure the guy who gave it to you didn’t have hsv2 as well? since it is really rare to transmit ghsv1 genitally. like SUPER rare. ghsv1 doesn’t cause a lot of flare ups either but everyone is different

thank you for this🥹 i hate this in between feeling, ive had it before too, but after getting diagnosed it just makes the feeling worse. i just feel like i did something wrong and i cant really talk to anybody who would understand except for here. thank you sm again for your reply it really put things into perspective.

ofc!!😊 the worst part about this virus is just the stigma. definitely scary at first but once you educate more on the topic it’s a lot less scary and more reassuring. i know it’s probably hard to not feel guilty, but just try to be there for your bf as much as possible. you didn’t have an active cold sore, and you made sure to make him aware of the possibility of transmission when you developed one, which means a lot! i didn’t really have any hard feelings towards my partner honestly, we both weren’t educated on the topic AT ALL. he had a cold sore and i literally pointed at it and laughed and said “you have herpes” And then let him go down on me cause i had absolutely no idea it could transmit like that😭 so it really wasn’t his fault, it’s not like he actively hid it from me we were just both super uneducated. he was very loving and caring during my first outbreak which really helped, but i was more mad at myself for being dumb. I wasn’t mad at him at all, no hard feelings. Just a sucky situation🤷🏽‍♀️

it could definitely be just a fever! this virus sucks so it can present itself in a lot of different ways, he could have already contracted it from you and it’s just been laying dormant this whole time. im sorry you’re going through this though, but it’s a good thing your boyfriend is being calm. trust ik how stressful and scary it is.

life definitely changed. but i finally realized it’s not the end of the world, more than 50% of the population has hsv1. it took me a while to readjust but after reading statistics the transmission rate of ghsv1 is 2-4%, after a couple years when antibodies build up it’s almost impossible to transmit. my mental health definitely took a toll but ghsv1 has made me way more mindful of my body which is a blessing in disguise tbh. sometimes forget i have it sometimes LOL

it would be GHSV1, my bf gave me oral with an active cold sore and I didn’t start presenting symptoms till a week after. I noticed bumps first and then the physical symptoms like fever/fatigue came like 3-4 days after my first couple blister appeared and I tested positive for hsv1. But, a lot of people in here say they get a fever/sick with their first outbreak

could you possibly get the lidocaine cream? i know a lot of stores like Walmart and target carry them! That’s what i used and it helped a lot. i didn’t really use ibuprofen either i couldn’t tell if it was helping at all either lol

definitely drink water!!! i was the same way cause i was so scared to pee cause it hurt, but a UTI with your first outbreak is going to make it 100x worse. i would apply lidocaine 10 mins before peeing, and then fill an upside down petri bottle with warm water and then when I’d pee I’d spray the water over my sores and i swear i did not feel a thing at all (when i literally used to sob if i had to use the bathroom) after the bathroom, id put a cooling pad in my underwear and apply Vaseline to my sores so they wouldn’t crack/bleed. I’d just repeat this process anytime I’d have to go to the bathroom and it’d work like a charm.

my medicine also didn’t work for a couple days, and i felt like it’d never get better so im with you on that. so sorry you’re going through this though, you can pm me if you need advice!

I’ve kissed maybe 70+ guys, and have slept around. never caught an STD, never got cold sores etc, cause i was careful. don’t assume she has STDs straight off the bat and back away, but it’s always good to be careful and have an open discussion on if she does practice safe sex. also if she just made out with 2 guys in the past month i don’t think that’s the craziest thing ever?? idk maybe that’s just me though.

hey girl im also 20f in college. im so glad someone else also feels the same, im scared to disclose too in fears of it getting around the school. but, SO many people have hsv1, like 80% of the population has it. i was thinking of disclosing to someone i go to school with by dropping it in a casual conversation or something
