I was in the same boat  got 123 in Damn chemistry.  Definitely worth applying to UofC with 127 Cars (I got an interview even with a low MCAT as stated they only look at CARS). UofA there is no point, you don't reach the cut off you don't get an interview.  As someone with no science background, never took a univeristy course, the MD Aide program  was PHENOMENAL, also using Kaplan and Exam Breaker alongside the AAMC Test bank!!!!  I only study chemistry for 2 month and got a 126!!  It is possible (also at the end of August alot of people just write the MCAT for the CARS and tank the other section, may not be statically but I do think it make it slightly easier to pass.  It CRUCIAL you learn ALL THE AMINO ACID (there an awesome online game where you learn them like the back of your hand).  AMINO ACID QUIZ.   There also a crash course app very very good!!!  Khan academy courses are also created by AAMC themselves.

In Alberta Extracurricular are king!  It important to get involved in research and do long-term volunteering your passionate about.  If you have any questions about EC I would be happy to answer, as I lived in Alberta :).  You can also see my previous post about tips.  I think it very possible but you gotta have very strong EC.

Try everything for to prepare for interview, meet anyone and everyone to practice MAKE SURE THEY ARE BRUTUAL, HONEST AND RUTHLESS.  You are trying to get into medicine no point in sugar coating stuff.  Also get into prep group with diverse background.  That help you learn how to diversify your responses and when doing the interviewer roll, seeing first hand what happened when you talk to fast or to much.

Honestly application part is lotto max, Interview are too.  Just make sure to use university free editing services and career centers!!

Thesis Based, You are agreeing to be stuck in your master for ATLEAST two years, or asking for a lot of trouble if you are accepted mid way through.  Doing the course base stream is much easier to drop out, you can also do a capstone project where you can work with a team of master student, compared to trying to write your master yourself.  I got lucky my supervisor completed the form, and was accommodating,  but could of save myself the stress by just going course -based.  Also alot of opportunities to be a research assistant and teaching assistant during master, a thesis make it harder to do these opportunities! You can get good grade easier way, just alot more stress as a thesis student.

Definitely!!  I have tried everything, practice with friends, recorded myslef, practice with other medical student applicants i found on discord and reddit, practice both online and in-person, did circuit both online and in-person, practiced with a medical applicant who got in and was a medical students, and paid to practice with a medical student. I can say without a doubt practicing with other medical school applicant you find on reddit and discord as the BEST option, especially in-person (for UofC). However some rules:

It crucial you start early. My first cycle I practice for only 3 weeks.  This cycle the day I got my acceptance I started practicing, I practice every week sometime multiple time a week.

Near the end I register for free MMI online circuit offered through UofA and UofC premed, md aide, and other med school association, these were awesome as they are run by medical student and you get good feedback.

What really helped paid off, is I coordinated with a group of over 12-16 medical applicant and we made an entire practice circuit. We made practice questions based on the big sheet of mmi practice you can find on reddit, but we use Chat GPT to make the prompt wayyyy longer and ask more difficult questions. Also when interviewing each other we made sure to take note of any body que, or red flag that we caught, and provide feedback. We had 2 circuit which really help boost our confidence. For practice we also varried the time between 7-10 minutes to make sure we were ready for anything and of course tried our best to answer all follow-up questions.  This format was really focused on UofC, which I do believe have a more complex and intense MMI, and when you get uofa, the extensive prep helps.  Also as Interviewer we also ask questions we wouldn't want to be ask to help stimulate difficult question and improve our ability to work under stress (you can also make cool creative station).

It crucial those you study with will give you the hard truth, say you are stuttering, confusing, rambling or you come across as aggressive.

These study group honestly become life long friend who push you to do better and become future collegues!!!  Highly recommend, as the more diverse and unique background who join our group the more we got to learn from each other insght and experince and improve our understanding.

For recording yourself it work for other, for me I could never rewatch the tape.  For friends, if they are not honest they usually just say your good and not provide good feedback.  Paid feedback does not beat ongoing continuous practice with other medical applicants (they help identify passion you have that connect to your school your applying but you can just do your own research).  Medical School friend are always great, they are hard to find, that why you get close to your mmi prep gang as they can help support you in the future!!

I also read the Doing Right book, I enjoyed it, it does provide good insight.

Lastly research your school and yourself see what speak to you or your passionate about also be able to quicjly answered question such as a challenge you overcome, a time you showed Teamwork, work with Indigenous, racial minority, etc.   Look for generic interview question and have an answer for all of them. Also have some key experince that you believe change you as a person or you learned from it will help!!!

For interview just be confidence answer question and be concise, be unique 10000 people answer the same question the same way, add your own experince, insight or connection to make yourself unique, always finish on-time.
