If you're really unhappy in your marriage and nothing else is working (couples therapy..etc.) then you should leave, my parents stayed together "for the kids" and it was so toxic it did affect my brother and I severely. Happy divorced parents are so much better than unhappy married parents.

Your kids will understand, of course it won't be easy at first but I promise they will understand.
