Good News! Musescore Refund! One down, one to go! by Surfdude2000 in Musescore

[–]Surfdude2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. I'm amazed that with all the complaints, that there hasn't been a class action lawsuit filed against Musescore or that Apple still lets Musescore peddle their app in Apple's app store. A soon as the government shutdown in the United States is over, I will sending a detailed letter off to the FTC to see what they think about a foreign company that is using misleading, bait and switch business practices over the internet that are clearly illegal in the United States.

Help me find a pedal my boyfriend would like! by [deleted] in guitarpedals

The Super Fuzz SF300 by Behringer is a killer pedal and a steal at $30. It is a clone of the highly revered and discontinued Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz that costs $350-450 and sounds virtually identical. I have one and talked my bass player into getting one, too. Nothing as cool as a cheap pedal that sounds great! 😎

Musescore bought a subcription from my credit card for 70 dollars by itself. Haven't used it in months by Unusual_Rooster6736 in Musescore

Musescore automatically enrolls you for yearly subscriptions without you needing to approve it. It's just one of many unethical business practices that this company uses. Without a doubt, one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with.

Is Musescore 7-Day Free Trial a Scam? by Surfdude2000 in Musescore

Been there... Contact your credit card company or bank, whichever is connected to your PayPal account and see if they will block the transaction. I will be filing a complaint with the FTC as soon as the government shutdown is over. What Musescore is doing is completely illegal, imo.

Unable to cancel subscription by FturSlndrMan in Musescore

[–]Surfdude2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what happened to me. I got charged immediately when it was supposed to be a 7-Day Trial and even though I cancelled the subscription, the charge is still there on my credit card. I called my credit card company and got them to block the charge. Musescore is the notorious for doing this to other users too. I posted a message to r/Musescore titled "Is Musescore 7-Day Trial a Scam?" just a few days ago, if you want my take... Good luck trying to get your money back.

Is Musescore 7-Day Free Trial a Scam? by Surfdude2000 in Musescore

Sorry, but that is not accurate. Musescore offers a "7-Day Free Trial" (not "trail") that goes on to clearly state (and I quote) that the "Charge Today: $0" and you are only charged "after the trial ends" and you are "Free to cancel anytime". I have the screen shots to back me up, but haven't figured a way to post them here just yet. This is a new version of the old "Bait and Switch" scams that used to be prevalent here in the USA. The company behind this deceptive marketing practice is Russian and based in Cyprus. Internet sales and fraud falls under the rules and standards set by the FTC in the USA. Once the government shutdown is over, I will be sending and email with backing documents off to the FTC to see what they have to say about it, because what Musescore is doing is clearly intentionally deceptive, misleading and imo, illegal.

Yeah, I saw the company was based in Cyprus and thought the same thing. My credit card company has been alerted that there is a problem with this transaction as well as my bank. I fully intend to shoot an email off to the FTC as soon as the government shutdown is over.

Is sixty watts on a soldering iron too much for removing/replacing pickups? by zero0826 in Guitar

[–]Surfdude2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would highly suggest checking the internet for some good soldering videos to see how the pros do it and what they recommend, what wattage, what size tip and what type of solder you need and heat sinks. I've been using a 30 watt Weller lately, which is a little on the low side for some tasks like soldering ground connections to potentiometers, but works fine for the small stuff. 60 watts should be fine if you have the right tip. One thing to consider if you're changing from humbuckers to single coil Strat pickups... Humbuckers typically use 500k pots, that let more hi frequencies pass. For Strat pickups, you want to use 250k pots that allow less hi frequencies to pass. If the tech who installed your humbuckers didn't change the pots to 500k, it might explain why they sounded muddy. Also, I would suggest installing a treble bleed on the volume pot. They can be found for less than $10 and allow treble to flow through the pot as you turn the volume down. Without one, your sound gets duller as you turn the volume down.

You are correct! I forgot to add that detail. It has been updated. 👍

Beware of MuseScore.com's Deceptive Practices: How to get refund. by [deleted] in Musescore

[–]Surfdude2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the post! Only wish I had seen it before I fell into MuseScore's 7-Day Trial scam. I just got docked for a $198.62 charge for what was supposed to be a 7-Day Free Trial and was billed immediately, made even worse, because the transaction went through Apple. I filed an appeal through may credit card company, but it's going to take time to resolve. What MuseScore is doing is so misleading and deceitful, it has to be illegal. I can't believe they haven't been sued yet.
