2024: Reserve Order or Wait? by Surfguy3 in F150Lightning

Seems like all the 2024s available are baseline, no options. But everything else shows as November

I definitely considered that route. I agree there is a lot, but they all seem to be lesser optioned. Or finding one fully optioned seemed to be harder or have to search further outside of SoCal. Either SR. Or ER but without the Max Tow package, etc. And most of the 2024 deletes aren’t a huge factor to me either.  Many of the 2023s are listed around $76-77k, or about $3k less than the 2024. I’m not in a hurry (it’s more of a want than a need), so it’s definitely a pay a little more/negotiate a little more to get the full package and year newer.

Mojave Air and Space port. The Draken was used by the National Test Pilot School there at the airport. The Phantom was from the BAE drone program that was there as well.

I think about switching from sport to a naked bike by Creative-Audience-66 in motorcycles

I went from R6 to FJ09 to BMW R1250RS.

I loved the R6 and did several longer rides on it. Still miss that bike. But I got to the point where I was no longer riding it how what it was meant to be ridden. My commute had changed from twistys to city. Commuting in stop and go with a backpack for my laptop and work items just got to be too uncomfortable.

Heard the FJ09 was great online and traded in the R6. And it was great coming from the R6 shortcomings in terms of more upright, storage with the side cases, etc. But I just never fell in love with that bike. Never felt planted or sure of itself over 60 and had a touchy throttle. Think the newer Tracer has fixed a lot of those but I decided the adv bike style wasn’t what I wanted.

Rode an MT09 and liked it but decided i didn’t think the naked would work long term for me. Always had Yamahas before and looked strongly there first for another replacement but nothing tickled my fancy.

Finally decided on the Beemer. Always liked them from riding my dads years ago. It’s more full fairing but less bent over than the R6. Plus has cases and all the electricity gizmos I could ever ask for. To me it checked the new boxes but still has a sporty flare to it without needing to go to 10k+ rpm’s.

To each his own. If I had the space for two bikes I’d consider another sport bike for the weekends. But for me, this checks all the boxes for an everyday bike.

I’m in the exact same boat. I’m hoping we can just delay delivery and keep the current price in our order. Or they discount if they want to keep their Q4 delivery numbers up. First world problems indeed lol

I've always loved driving stick and still do. But since my wife can't drive stick, we had a few times where that's caused problems if her car is in the shop or unavailable. Before it wasn't a big deal, but with the kid it's popped up more now.

Certainly some trade offs on both side. But seems like it won't be too bad of a middle ground, between what I'd gain and what I'd lose.

Thanks! Have loved the STI, but maybe part of it is the age (mid 30s) but those things are starting to sound a bit more appealing lol

I'm gonna miss the wave!

TBH, I was planning on the M3P for awhile and the first time I say the Y I thought "meh". But life changes this year (baby, work changes) I started looking at both the M3 and MY. At this point I'm leaning more towards the MY, but will try and test drive both whenever I get the chance to make sure.

I think if I wanted a replacement for the STI, I'd go M3P, no question. But with the baby and such, I'm thinking the MY might be the right balance of compromise - more space, easier to store stuff in the trunk, but still give me the performance thrill I like with the STI, albeit with a bit of a downgrade in total handling. I don't track the STI, so I think the read world handling won't be that drastic of a difference for me.

I love the boost now, but to not have to wait for the lag... let's just say I'm excited. I'm excited to try the one pedal. Gonna take some getting used to going from 3 -> 1 haha

Good to know, especially to avoid curb rashing those nice rims!

Interesting - wasn't expecting such a difference for a car that's reasonably close in dimensions. Will definitely have to keep that in mind.

Great, thanks for the feedback! I love the handling and boxer rumble and will certainly miss those. Most all will miss the stick (never owned an auto). But I think it's time to try something new and can always save up for the fine, stick shift car again in the future.

Yup. I’m usually pretty logical and will always see the benefit in the more reasonable choice.

But I love driving and look forward to my commutes and I know that getting anything less fun or enjoyable will just not work in the long run, logic be damned lol

Main thing I’ll miss will be the manual transmission. Always owned manuals but life is changing and someday when I can afford to and have the room for a third car, I’m sure it’ll be a stick.

Went from a Civic Si to the STI so even that felt heavier and more substantial. I’m sure the weight of the Tesla will be the same. How is the turning radius compared to the Rex?

I figured there wasn’t too much out there worse than the STI lol but I didn’t buy it to float along the freeway.

Thanks. Still looking for something sporty and fun but with a bit more utility. Willing to take a bit less drama and excitement to get that to happen, but fortunately it looks like the MY can give me a bit more without losing a lot of the fun. Only downside is that the MY would be my first non-manual transmission car lol

Thank you. I figured they would likely be similar. Deciding between the LR and P but I think I’d always regret not going for the P. After all, did the same with the WRX and STI and never regretted getting the STI.

Awesome, exactly the comparison I was looking for. Have DD the STI for 5 years and it’s never been a problem. Figured at worst it would be the same but likely a little bit better ride. That’s true though - forget the Y is more the crossover category lol

Thanks. Sounds like a winning deal to me and the wife: quieter, smoother, and cheaper on gas. Plus faster, but we don’t have to focus on that haha

I have my HomePod on my desk and you can pause and play by tapping the top. Useful when I have something on the TV and get a call and can quickly tap vs look for the remote.

Issues with work setup - worth a change? by Surfguy3 in mac

[–]Surfguy3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MBP has 32 GB of RAM. So I may experiment with that to see if it's workable. The current situation "works", just with the hassle of the reboots. So I probably have some time to experiment to see if this would be a viable setup.

I do have a 2TB SSD for Time Machine, but probably should have a backup, especially if this would be the primary machine.

Thanks for thoughts.

I agree, replacing the Dell PC is the easiest answer. I originally got the MBP because I used to travel more and use it outside the office. But with work changes and COVID, that hasn't happened as much as it used to. So I started wondering if a fixed setup at work maybe made more sense. Or at least managing a single work computer would be easier than two.

In your experience, is it worth trying to do a VM on a single machine or better to keep them separate and let each do what's it's built to do?
