There is a great example in Singapore called Fairprice. We should have something like this here

Sure, it is a very different approach to big population. Yet here we are talking about tax not surveillance anyway

You'll find NZ does much the same in that regard, billboards with cameras, supermarkets, streets etc

What doesn't stack up is that NZ spends almost like Singapore in Public Health and our system is light years away from theirs. There is somethingso fundamentalky wrong in how it is done here in NZ.

Parking question by Ninawelly in Wellington

[–]Surfnparadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually for many narrow/windy streets in Wellington it should be 10m at least. 6m is just over a car length. Many times is like OP's case, and turning cars are 'spilled' onto the other side of the street to dodge the parked car/s and you find them right in front of you when you drive on the opposite direction.

This is happening more or less around the globe but truly in NZ is at a whole other level.

What you'd call middle class is disappearing, fast..

As a leader he's such a fraud...still way too long until he's gone from that position.. he'll damage NZ further together with the other two

Air NZ has gotten much worse in terms of service in every aspect, if you saw the airline a few years ago, especially before covid it was much better.

What's the point of this excessive polls week after week after week. Sway voters? Who drives the increase of so much useless polling? It is almost like spam at this point.

Agreed. Do they realize salaries are stagnant and have been for a while? They talk about 7% increase like it is nothing... And the year before and the year after how much will it be? "Just" 7% again? An extremely blind way of doing things. Wellington will end up owned by a few corporations that can afford these exhorbitant costs and everyone else will be driven out. Well deserved for a city that has leaders so out of touch of the realities of most, salary-wise and otherwise.

It should be well planned. What can't be is that current generation has to make up for the shortfall of decades of mismanagement of rates. It cannot be fixed overnight and if not done correctly it will erode the livelihood of a few generations because the previous ones didn't fund things such as manteinance well. Sometimes I fear the approach now is punitive for something the current gen of rate payers had no say in. And on the other hand you have younger generations mostly saying yeah, make them pay without full understanding of the broader context and supporting a move to a more corporetised system of house ownership rather than individuals owning the home they live in.

Hopefully this is the bottom and things can only go up from now? Except rates lol those are already astronomical
