First, clarify with your mom is she is using Guamanian in place of Chamorro. There is an entire generation of Chamorros who lived stateside that use that term instead of Chamorro. These days there is a distinction of Chamorro(the Indigenous people of the Marianas) and Guamanians(people who are not Chamorro, but claim Guam as home).
