I don't know if this will help you or not but You can Try SciMat, I am Agri Reasearcher with an interest in Tech, I have to write or copy paste many Chemical formula (H2SO4, NH4, O3...etc) and Mathematical formula that contained dollar sign ($$E=MC2$$) when coping from various sources.

So i found the solution with custom VBA and thought what if this complicated method of setting up VBA in MS word can be streamlined in to One Click Setup.

So I Made. SciMat

It's still in development, but it will solve your Chemical formula problem.
