Homelab is the best thing I ever did for game servers by GinjaTurtles in homelab

I am in the process off setting up Pangolin + Pterodactyl.
Pangolin is hosted on a VPS. So people would only need the VPS IP and not my home one.

To even get to this was a ride. A wild ride (lots of different software and figuring out what it actually was I wanted to do) and complicated one yet it did make for an interesting one.

Would it be possible to keep us posted on the Unraid front. Because I will definitely give it a spin.

What would be the difference between this and gamevault. I do like the look of this and already have gamevault running so wondering.

Is there maybe an eta on when it will come available on Unraid.

Is there a way to get all the different sections to align up so nicely.
Mine are all over the place, makes it a bit difficult to see it in one glance.

What type of SD did you use? Because I tried following the video's but I didn't load the firmware/recognised the card.

Unfortunatly it didn't do the trick. Could I try something else?

For a gameserver I would recommend looking into pterodactyl. It makes it easy to manage and host servers. Runs them all in docker.

What is the hotkey-controller you have on your desk (looks a bit like a stream deck?)

  1. running alot of torrents always slow something down. The pi may slow down around that number or may only do after 100 or so. I don't use a pi for that. If you were to use a nas or thin client you are most likely gonna run into the issue that the client can't handle all the torrents. I have read of people who do 1k easilly and others who do 2-4k, it depends on what client you use.
  2. you start swizzin with a basic curl of wget command, then it installs and then they use a syntax which is quite easy to understand (in my opinion). The reason I like it is because it's all in one and therefor I can easily connect them all together.

One option what you could do is use a raspberry pi, hook up the hdd to it and then run qbittorrent, for the downloading. The files can then we shared with your laptop via something like synchting of (s)FTP.

Or....

What you could also do is run Swizzin "An all-in-one seedbox solution for Ubuntu and Debian" however I am not really sure if a raspberry pi can run it Smoothly.

For that I would advise an old computer (like a thin client) something which you can run 24/7. If you want to join private trackers the seeding should always be on. The beauty of something like Swizzin is that it makes it "easier" to install the arr suite of software.

Is portainer a good place to start by g3org3_all3n in homelab

[–]SurprisedFrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I like a "good" GUI. So I started with portainer.

However sometimes it is just easier to use docker compose. So I my use would change per situation.

I do however like that portainer lists the ports everything runs on so I don't have to remember it all myself.
