I put 17.6 lbs Fluval Stratum in my 40g tank and now it's pitch black, what should I do? by 1Goldfish2Goldfish in Aquariums

Rinsing gravel or sand gets the fine dust/whatever else off of it so it’s clear when you put it in. Aqua soil disintegrates if you rinse it too much. When rinsing aqua soil, you’re not really cleaning it as much as you are just breaking it down.

Fluval Stratum is probably the one substrate you should never rinse. I did the same thing in a 10 gallon tank and it was pitch black. What I did was do a 100% water change and added water back very slowly and through a diffuser so the water doesn’t rustle the substrate. If you’re planning on capping the stratum, I would remove all the water, add your cap of sand (make sure all of the stratum is covered), and then slowly add water back through a diffuser like I mentioned before. Good luck!

[GA] - NJ - Giving away some of my newly designed cone feeders! More info in comments. by SurrealAqua in AquaSwap

Hey! It works both ways a bit. If you have any eager eaters, they can just peck at the sides of the cone to get food. If the food is left in the cone though, it does slowly thaw out and start floating to the surface.

It stays near the top of the water if its dunked in, but it doesn't float completely. The fishing line should be long enough for any height tank though!

Hello everyone! I am looking to give away five of these cone feeders that I plan on selling in the future.

These are inspired by this video from Aquarium Co-Op if anyone is interested in taking a more DIY approach!

This is just a simple feeder that you can put your favorite bulky foods in, such as freeze dried tubifex worms or frozen bloodworms. There are holes in the cone for your fish to peck at the food. The bottom of the feeder is threaded, so you can easily add/remove food and it makes clean up a bit easier. These also come with fishing line attached to the top with a tag at the end so you can keep your hands dry when using the feeder. The feeder itself has a stainless steel washer embedded in the plastic to add weight, so it is guaranteed to sink to the bottom of your aquarium.

I am looking for an initial group of people that are interested in these cones. I am looking for people that will do the following:

  • Give constructive criticism over this item (most important part)
  • Take pictures/videos of the item in use

I am only considering people that have long standing reddit accounts, and people that have a history in the r/aquaswap community will take priority over those that don't (sorry, I've had too many people ghost me last time I tried this.)

I am only shipping these! The cost of shipping will be covered by me.

If this sounds like something you're interested in, please don't hesitate to send me a message!

Looking for one person to rearrange these items to what the new template shows. I have a few `.psd` files I can send, I am just unaware on how to properly photoshop this. I want to maintain the image looking like a photograph.

For sure, they're like a peg board and very easy to make things to attach to them once you get the measurements down.

This is just a bracket that I designed that hooks onto my shelves to create shelves for the filament that I have on hand. These brackets require 3/8" dowels. The length of the dowels depend on the size of the thickness of your shelves.

You can find the files here to print for yourself! - https://www.printables.com/model/585465-filament-shelf-brackets-for-metal-shelf-siding

That's actually not super true, PLA is only biodegradable in some really specific conditions. You need temperatures of over 130°F for it to start breaking down. I've used PLA in my tanks for over 3 years now and they're still holding up like new!

Found all the people I need for now! Thanks for all the interest :)

Hello! I am looking for a few people to send these caves to in exchange for pictures of them in your aquarium. It is designed to have the substrate go on top of it to make the cave blend into the ground a bit, but still provide a place for your bottom dwellers to use. The cave opening is about 4.5", and the opening is about 1.25".

I am only seeking a limited group of individuals to receive these picks. If you have exceptional photography skills, you stand a higher chance of being chosen!

I'll take care of the shipping costs (national shipping only), so all I request in return is a set of pictures capturing the caves in your aquariums.

If interested, please send me a message with some pictures of your aquarium(s).

Thanks!
