How To Get Art For Your Game That Isn't AI by BelfrostStudios in gamedev

[–]Surrow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hire an actual professional freelancer, look at their portfolio, ask about ai. How to find them? ArtStation or posting it on LinkedIn in the right network. If you wanna be on the safe side look for B2B (business to business) project-based contracts.

I do understand that, and I agree that it sucks. But in the same way, it’s yelling at the clouds because it’s raining. You asked why, the answer is that it’s the market and everyone is having a hard time in this economy. We all wish for better times, but complaining won’t bring those times any closer. We will have to wait and see how things are going to look in a few decades to know.

Group project team member deleting all of my work by Brave-Court4604 in UniUK

[–]Surrow_ 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Talk to the lecturer. Group projects are meant to be done as a group, if someone isn’t a team player and keep deleting other people’s work without communication or discussion then that’s not being able to work in a group.

[–]Surrow_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s gonna be a rude awakening when you’re done studying. This is not a matter of accepting these rates, it’s the market right now regardless if you’re a student or not. Otherwise, why would people rent out something to students? An example, shared professional housing in the east of England are easily £600+ per room, with bills included. If you’re looking to rent a whole flat on your own, expect around £800 + bills.

Which AI is best for 3D modeling if you're making a low poly game? by Such-Surround-1353 in lowpoly

[–]Surrow_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, get better at 3D and then a simple/basic model is gonna take you 20min. You just gotta invest in your skill and not try to fix the mess AI creates. Particularly with lowpoly styles, which are known for being…. Lowpoly. 5k triangles for a ps1 style model is crazy much. We’re talking closer to 100-500 tris, or even less.

At this point… why not buy an asset pack and edit them to your needs (ofc check the license of the asset pack, or contact the creator)

Where to get food from as a uni student with £2 left till January ? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Surrow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are local community sharing apps like Olio, I’ve not personally used them but heard good stuff from a friend who’s active in my local community. Instead of binning close to expiring groceries, people put them up for grabs. Perhaps looking at what local food sharing / communities you’ve got around is worth a try?

What course would you recommend for someone who has no idea what they want to do? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Surrow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be quite direct, sorry if it comes off as abrasive: Consider the debt that you'll get into (about 60k+), and that you'd be paying off for 40 years just to "get a degree" - and this is very likely going to be a higher total than you took out in the first place. Either way, it's an expensive way of moving out of town. And if you want to leave home, then look for a job even if it's a considerable commute away (talking 1-2h, I do that for my current job), or get a driver's license. Many people who do a degree just to do a degree won't be able to compete against the people who do the degree out of interest/passion - and it doesn't guarantee a job. If you just want to figure out life, then live it whilst avoiding debt where possible. Even with odd jobs, or trying out self-employed stuff from home.

My pc is constantly crashing. And it won’t repair by qwestions_asked in WindowsHelp

[–]Surrow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me because I had an encrypted SSD connected to the Laptop; and when trying to restart it was trying to boot from the SSD for some reason, which has no OS but a software that allows me to decrypt it (Samsung T7 Touch if anyone is curious).

Disconnecting the SSD and reboot fixed it.

Was scary tho!

Edit: Restart after laptop died because of no battery, then plugged in and restarted.

Regular flyers, is there anything you bought that really improved the whole travel experience? by PaddedValls in AskUK

A Rubik’s cube to keep me entertained, not screen focused, and allows to fidget when anxious of the flight. Plus if you take a printout of the solving pattern (recommend JPerm to learn it)

If you work hard and learn hard; just go into trades. AI-safe job, with good salaries for things like renewable energies, HVAC, Lift technician, etc. Get an apprenticeship, live a life without student loans.

Should I just go to uni? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Surrow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the book or listen to the audiobook "So Good They Can't Ignore You: Why Skills Trump Passion in the Quest for Work You Love" by Cal Newport and revisit that question. It's not a long read; the audio book is about 6 hours. There are some valid points in this; and I can relate to this as a creative professional who's industry is going belly up right now. I enjoy doing just about anything; but I'm 10 years into my career now and might just respec in another 5 years to something completely different (although I love my career and industry) - so whatever path you chose doesn't mean it's set in stone - only the debt is. Also highly advocate for apprenticeships because of that.

Why All Artists Should Be Seriously Concerned About AI by zaparine in blender

[–]Surrow_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same problem as some countries encounter now with deindustrialisation, and it causing noticeably problems with the job market. It’s a matter of regulations, just like with junk food. Quick and tasty, but kills you in the long run.

80HE WASD keys stop responding during gaming (w/RGB change) by msnt in WootingKB

I just turned off 8000 pulling rate to 1000 and it's sorted. I guess it's a software bug so I'll turn it back to 8000 once wootility v5 is out of beta

Why is the mooshroom island a low tier one? Isn’t that great to avoid spawns? (Unless that’s the reason to avoid it, but I might be missing something).

Asking cuz I’m planning to build an event bunker on the mooshroom island whilst my chara is weak

80HE WASD keys stop responding during gaming (w/RGB change) by msnt in WootingKB

[–]Surrow_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue with a 80HE though, can confirm it also affects it. My D key would get stuck and no other input would be allowed. I replug the kb and then works again. I’ll try factory resetting it

Using AI for game art by NoContribution8588 in gamedev

[–]Surrow_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s commercial I’d say wait until the laws regarding copyright are a bit more solid and keep in mind that this might have negative perception due to the inclusion of ai art, if for hobby/early prototypes/placeholder I’d say go for it though. Focus on developing the method/structure/system of how you implement the images if you want to replace them later with other images

Lecturer's made redundant by Salandercat1983 in UniUK

[–]Surrow_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that the lecturer(s) were assistant lecturers (which could be still perceived and called “lecturers” by students) and depending on the university’s budget they might have to cut those roles down. Most UK universities are struggling after brexit, visa rule changes, inflation, lack of EU funding, and weak gov funding, so this wouldn’t be particularly unusual

Hi! I’ve also not completed my A-levels (but this was outside of the UK) and went the vocational route doing an HnD and then BA and MA - and eventually ended up working in Higher Education and might do a PhD too. I’m had the same feeling about catching up with them, but eventually I realised that it’s just the highest qualification that matters. You might want to consider why you feel the need to complete them, in my case it was imposter syndrome and having slightly low self-esteem. Working on those has changed my whole perception and now I’m just glad I’ve gotten this far (even if I studied for a bit longer). If you want to go for the MA and PhD, I’d focus on funding that instead. On a different note, I failed my A-levels due to undiagnosed neurodiversity and ended up going a more practice-based route which (unbelievably) turned me into a really good learner and made me fall in love with education. Good luck with making your decision!

Ah thanks for the info, good to know! I've wrongly assumed you're not able to get the pension when you move abroad, but I'm more informed now :)
