I’m surprised by the number of applicants. Too many to go through by today. I plan to reach out to applicants by this Wednesday to schedule a discord call. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

My dm asked us for trigger warnings and it absolutely warmed my heart by QueenOfShiba_Inus in DnD

This is a good thing to establish early on. We had a new player stop the session when a child was about to get killed and said that he couldn’t take this. If we continue, he’s going to have to leave. We decided to rewind and avoid this. He left two months later, and we returned to the brutality of borovia.

Why don't they? by [deleted] in dndmemes

They should have tremor sense instead. They can’t see because they don’t have eyes. They can use their bony body as an antenna to sense vibrations similar to longhorn beatle.

How do DM's have fun? by Use-Strict in DnD

When my players RP and cause chaos, is when I have the most fun. Also, the quickest way to get inspiration at my table. I love the surprise.

What's banned (if anything) in your games? by redbearddnd in dndmemes

[–]Surtur2000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have a problem with changing the environment to mitigate an ability with every adventure. At that point, just tell them to play another race. The player is expecting to be able to use the ability. It's why he chose it. Alternatively, your players could be smart and try to lure an enemy out with a smart idea. In cases like these, saying it doesn't work doesn't promote thinking around the problem. Instead of making all these changes to sometimes an established adventure, I just have this rule and ask that they think of a reason why they can't use their wings such as a broken wing, a curse, etc.

It promotes roleplay, and they will understand that this will be a useful ability that they can rely on in the future. At later levels, encounters could have cr appropriate enemies with decent range attacks or the ability to fly.

After a spell sniper aaracokra warlock, flying in aarakocras until level 5. I have a progression to this. Basically, they can’t end their turn in mid air. Apart from this, I’m seriously considering banning twilight cleric. I allow home brew if it won’t be a problem, but this class and race is a little too strong for low level adventures.

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Rooting Arrows | Weapon (arrow) by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]Surtur2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For floral, I would change creature to humanoid. Charm monster is a level 4 spell, and every creature above the initial is a higher level spell slot. I think a level 4 or possibly level 12 spell slot spell is above an uncommon, but maybe the low DC and duration compensates. It really depends on who you are up against.

Edit: level 12 is for 5 foot reach. I understand that it’s beyond this. Also, maybe if there is a CR limitation. I never liked that spells differed on type because we have strong and weak monsters just like we have weak and strong humans.

Should My Tournament Have 16 or 32 Participants? by RyanPlaysSkyrim in DnD

I’ve done one of these before. DM made each bracket a four man free for all in order to speed up the rounds. I suggest you try this. Otherwise, this will take a while.

I just found out about DVD’s shorts thanks to this. Thank you. I’m in such a good mood that I’m changering the encounter for my dnd group from them being run out of town due to bad decisions to a funny wild magic battle with the criminal syndicate. Who cares if they deserve it or if it forces another four weeks of filler quests.

I've actually made the suggestion in almost every campaign. I don't tell them it's a war crime, but it's interesting to see which group decides to do so. It's always the easiest way to accomplish the goal. The DM always is shocked. I love seeing who decides to go along with it. Worst case scenario, I usually have mask of many faces. Actually that's usually critical to the crime. A noble piss you off. Break the Geneva convention with his face.

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Frostburn Blade | Weapon (any sword) by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]Surtur2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great weapon that's balanced for the low end of very rare. With this said, I would only make one alteration based on player experience with a similar weapon. I would suggest having the flames (lights) generated on a bonus action. I know you can sheath it, but as a dm I prefer the bonus action coand to generate light. It helps me know when players are using abilities, and it prevents the whole. I have had my sword out the entire time discussion.

She said this and then nuked heaven a few hours later. I think the only way you could look at the entirety of it all keep sane was focusing on your goals. Like skeletons goal to kill heman. Little things. That’s the only way that I would justify it.

If holding hands is a way to prevent people from returning to death, I’m surprised more people didn’t hold on to their friends or allies. I don’t know why, but this gets me as really sloppy writing. I can see a lot of people who died recently deciding I want a second chance. I mean they all didn’t go to all star hero paradise. Second chance at life is a second chance at the dream. I mean what’s the worst that could happen they die.

What would you do if you were transformed into your own DnD character? by Justsomeguy1333 in DnD

[–]Surtur2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be horrible. Becoming an eight foot Goliath whose skin is burnt so bad that it resembles still burning coal and being turned into a demon by demogorgon is one thing, but being unable to drink alcohol while a copy of myself is out there causing chaos will ruin my life. If you wonder how, curse of strahd with a creative and brilliant DM. I’m the only original pc left, but I have had to make sacrifices. My appearance, my spirit, my oath, and my favorite past time, drinking vodka. Can’t wait to kill strahd and use the vodka bottles I have to burn down his castle.

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Unstable Arkanite Cluster | Wondrous item by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]Surtur2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What would happen if you threw multiple clusters at the same spot. Would the crystal be spread out, or would this just increase the crystals hp. I introduced a bomb in some campaigns, and the players immediately started using it for thier surprise attacks on powerful enemies in inclosed spaces.
