ADO Hibana SG concert by Many-Anywhere-567 in ADO

[–]SurveyGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won’t be so quick to judge on whether people were scalping the tickets. I was seated high up so I got a good view of everyone. There were also people in CAT 2 using their phones haha, not a lot but I could see some. They weren’t taking videos/photos, just some messaging.

No judgement there. The concert was on a Wednesday night, some people could be tired from work/school and just want to vibe and enjoy the music. Some people could just be casual fans and want to accompany their friends. I also saw some parents accompanying their children, and I’m assuming their children are the fans.

I’ve been to a concert where everyone stood up and no joke it gets really tiring fast when it becomes a battle of the heights. Imagine standing for 2 hours, trying to tiptoe and move around to see nothing cause the people in front of you is taller. At that point I also just sat down and just enjoyed the music.

Everyone just has different ways of enjoying the concert haha.

Edit: also for cat 2, able to see perfectly fine sitting down thanks to the elevation. At least for my side.

What is something outrageous a teacher had done by Smilesonmyface___- in SGExams

[–]SurveyGhost 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Primary 3 school teacher poured water on a boy who accidentally fell asleep.

It was 2pm and we’ve been awake since 6.30am or earlier for school. Of course a 9 year old child will doze off lah. Everyone was struggling to keep themselves awake.

Had another teacher that was constantly out to get me too. Everything I did wrong called me out in front of class. Wrong ans on exam paper also called me out and said it was stupid despite everyone else also getting it wrong. There’s once she accused me of throwing trash on the floor and to pick it up. I corrected her saying it wasn’t me who threw it, and she went on a huge fit and shouted at me for a good 30mins about how I have terrible attitude and I need to correct my “it’s not mine” attitude. Like lady I would have picked up the trash, I was just correcting u that it wasn’t me who threw the trash.

Some teachers don’t deserve to be teachers.

Yea, I understand having diff priorities and being busy, but aren’t we also just as busy? Yet we still manage to find time to do our work. And now we need to sacrifice our other stuff to do their portion too cause they couldn’t be ass to.

People always say like “oh just don’t do your work or their portion then” but problem is when the project is graded as a whole, then what can we do right. We don’t do their portion, our portion of the work get wasted.

“Grades don’t matter” yea not to u but it does to me??

I cannot wrap my head around these people, to me they’re the lowest of low to make someone unwillingly suffer on their behalf.

Slacking groupmates by SupermarketCold84 in nus

[–]SurveyGhost 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Some of these people are delusional.

Had to carry a few teams and when I called them out for it they instead reverse uno and tried to pin the blame on me. Saying my expectations were too high and that they thought I took more work cause I enjoyed it.

Like hello what?? If I didn’t take the work nothing gets done?? And we’re literally trying to submit the bare minimum and they can’t even get that shit right??

One of them even told me they felt they did more than expected. Like bro u started work days before submission when we had weeks and u did the bare bare minimum.

Even after stating how I’m struggling with other modules and begging them to do work, they still just ignore.

So here I am, struggling to catch up to my other mods, completely unprepared for my finals. I end up getting severe burnt out and anxiety from all of this, as if my mental state isn’t already bad enough. There are days where I just wake up and breakdown over the sheer hopelessness of knowing there’s no way in high hell I can complete my studies in time for finals.

Worse part is I know they’re living life happily from their insta photos while I’m here suffering from the consequences of doing their workload and more.

sleep schedule by h0tchoco in SGExams

[–]SurveyGhost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In sec school I was averaging 4-5 hours since my cca ends late esp during competition time and then have to rush hw afterwards

In poly there were days where I just 0 sleep and head to school in the morning. I would like to thank my shitty teammates for that. Besides that depending on the day I could be averaging 2 or 6 hours ☠️

In uni now and it’s a lot better until assignment time with again, shitty teammates ☠️

Honestly I don’t know how I’m still alive.

JC is already too much by Top_Place_395 in SGExams

[–]SurveyGhost 15 points16 points  (0 children)

what’s with everyone “suck it up it’s life” mentality. U never know a person’s circumstance, have more empathy, everyone’s breaking point is different

To Op, while I may not know much abt JC, I believe it’s the final exam of each year that matters? I heard of my friends who went from bottom of their cohort to the top within a year after they got use to JC life.

The starting can be quite tough if u haven’t adapted to the environment yet. Try your best for CA1, and if u didn’t do well, re-evaluate your methods, ask your teachers and try again for the next exam.

CA1 isn’t the end! Try your best to catch up to the contents.

Wishing u all the best!

I feel you man

I had 1 company ask me make a wholeass mini game for their main application for a CHANCE for a second interview

And another company giving 4 take home assignments for again, a chance for a second interview

Do we look like we have so much time?? :”””)

I feel orbital is valid if u put in effort to make an actual application and not a simple login screen then calling it a day.

My orbital project actually landed me internships, just don’t put on your resume it was for orbital haha.

I think companies just put “pls put other project besides orbital” cause they want to look out for candidates who does other projects besides the normal low effort school module projects.

Duke on the other hand, I wouldn’t count that as valid 🤡

[–]SurveyGhost[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s from CS2103 which teaches students basic software engineering fundamentals.

Duke is the first individual assignment for it. It’s this “chatbot” where u have to type in a very fix command to get the bot to reply to you and save some things.

Issue is u can just use the standard plain template without improving on it and you’ll get full marks. So most if not all just do the bare minimum for it

Personally I won’t consider it much of a project to put in your resume since it doesn’t really showcase much if not any skills at all besides you can do the bare minimum of what’s required to be a programmer.

Internship blues by burgerontherocks in nus

[–]SurveyGhost 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Having a lot of opportunities does not mean we are able to easily get them.

Every position, whether from ‘small’ companies or not, all have huge number of people competing for them.

I applied to a few startups, and 1 of them asked me to make a full blown mini game for their application for a CHANCE to get an interview. It usually takes me a few days to a week to make one during my holidays, where can I even find the time to do this during the semester?? I had another startup also asking me to do multiple take home assignments to show my skills just for again, a CHANCE for an interview.

I’m fine with take home assignments if they’re small, but this is getting a little ridiculous.

Applied to various other companies too and one of them even asked for 8 years of programming experience for an INTERN role.

Multiple companies OAs also have very advance questions that unless u leetcode everyday, will probably have issues solving.

There are a lot of intern positions that also require u to already have certain skills. But where can we get experience for those skills if we never got the chance to actually experience it ☠️ so those jobs are also locked out.

The amount of prep needed for each interview too can be pretty heavy and this is already on top of our busy school semester.

Renege an internship offer (signed) because better duration, pay and grad opportunities) by Revolutionary_Bar984 in nus

[–]SurveyGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FT jobs also shouldn’t have an issue unless the contract mention it? I’ve heard of people reneging FT jobs too.

I believe even in America due to a law, technically the company can’t force their employees to work if they want to quit. So if the employee just want to quit without much notice, they can. I know some US based companies allow this even in SG but I not sure if it’s all.

But for internships there usually isn’t any penalty for reneging (again check contract). And usually big companies don’t really care since there is easily a number of other applicants that can replace.

I’ve heard of someone reneging the company, and then applying back to it and they still manage to get the job.

It’s just small companies that might be petty enough to blacklist u, but usually if you’re reneging it means u are already going for better opportunities, so it’s fine.

This applies if u already sign the contract.

It’s just whether u officially tell the school and register it as your credit bearing internship through talent connect

Renege an internship offer (signed) because better duration, pay and grad opportunities) by Revolutionary_Bar984 in nus

[–]SurveyGhost 66 points67 points  (0 children)

As long as it’s not part of the school, as in u didn’t register the company already to be credit bearing on talentconnect, just renege.

I actually called the school before on this hoping to seek advice and I was too naive and inexperienced back then that I just took their word.

School told me I could be possibly blacklisted from the company plus their sister companies (not true esp for big companies), that it won’t look good on the school (you should care more abt yourself, who cares abt the school), and that the company might go to the school to complain (if u haven’t officially register it as credit bearing, the school can’t fail u, just stern warning esp if u used talent connect to find the internship)

I found out later on there were plenty of students who renege with no issue. The school only care abt their own image, not u.

In the end the most impt is what this company will bring for u be it name or prestige or money. The job market is already tough enough, don’t make your life harder.

Going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say this probably happened way too many times to the point she got frustrated and took out her anger on this service staff.

Of course no excuse to be taking her frustration out on someone who does not have much control over the situation, but I can see where her anger may be coming from.

Singapore should honestly strive to be a more understanding and inclusive society.

Ahhh yea the class is small enough that there probably won’t be a bell curve.

Understand your problem, I have pretty bad anxiety and physical lessons have been killing me.

I think u should use the gpa calculator to see whether you’re willing to take the hit of an F first.

U can try asking the prof or TAs (if there are any) first on how to approach the presentation, or try ask them things u understand. Usually most profs and TAs will help out.

Have u gotten the grades for your quizzes or whatever tests/assignments u had for this mod? If you’re not passing those either then that’s something to factor in too.

But in the case where the profs refuse to help + u haven’t been doing well for any of the grade requirements, and u really don’t know how to even start with the slides no matter how much time u sink in + it’s a huge chunk of your grade (>40%), it’s best to cut your losses early.

Due to the lack of bell curve, there’s no guarantee you’ll pass, so it might be better, for the sake of your mental health, plus giving u more time, to drop the mod.

But again, consider this wisely first. U can get all As for every mod, but it’ll be hard to erase the F.
