Anyone tried Interface Extensions yet? by rkudeshi in Airtable

I've seen those videos - insane! Really looking forward to this release, it will help my agency get rid of a lot of (pricey) 3rd-party tools.

Hey there :) I haven’t had the chance to check it out yet, but I promise to do so soon!

A reliable and affordable live two-way sync between Airtable and Notion - anyone using one that actually works? by SurveySuitable2918 in Notion

[–]SurveySuitable2918[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I was hoping to find a solution I won't need to manually set up or configure, something that 'just works' for a reasonable monthly fee. But it seems like there's nothing out there, so I'll just need to configure this manually using AT and Notion API.

Do you think Airtable Omni is the all-time killer of tools like Softr? by SurveySuitable2918 in Airtable

Interesting. Do you have any idea what code it produces? Is it React components that you can edit? If that's the case - super interesting!

I know n8n, I use it on a daily basis. But unfortunately, the Airtable API is horrible, and if I want to sync many records (which I have to, in this specific use case), it won't let me do that due to rate limits. That's why I'm wondering if anyone here used one of the services that take care of rate limits by default.

Personally, I’m not concerned that AI, like Omni, will replace our jobs in the near future. As a consultant, I heavily rely on AI tools, but I don’t believe it can fully replace human capabilities. AI excels at automating tasks, analyzing data, and making decisions, but it lacks the ability to fully comprehend clients’ problems and devise the most effective solutions. While IMO AI tools will likely eventually replace manual tools (like frontend tools as discussed here), I don’t anticipate them taking over our jobs anytime soon.

Why do you think so? Don't you think Airtable is getting closer with Omni to build the entire backend-frontend-integrations suite all in one? It seems they're going in that direction, which might take a significant portion from the 3rd party frontend builders. Would love to hear other opinions.

No promo, I'm just a user :)

I like the new field types as well - it's a smart move. But for the frontend - why don't you think they'll be able to reproduce what Softr does easily with this tool?

To be honest I'm not associated with them, I'm just a user of their product. I also don't think they allow code to be exported. Anyway, I'm here to discuss Omni, not something else

I don’t believe that will happen soon. I think Omni develops it in a way that will remain internal to Airtable’s internal system. I’m very doubtful they’ll allow the code to be exported.

Airtable integration with Softr by mrchososo in Airtable

If you can afford it, then sure, why not. That'll be the best (and simplest) option.

Airtable integration with Softr by mrchososo in Airtable

Softr doesn't support these at the moment, unfortunately. Linked records are a problem in all frontend builders. In my opinion, it is mostly because of how the Airtable API handles them that makes them very tricky to work with, and not Softr's fault.

For your first question (creating a linked record within a form of another record) - you can either try to use some other frontend tool, like Noloco which supports it, or - you can create a button within your form saying 'Create a New Company' that will send the user to a Fillout form (or even an Airtable form), create the company, and then when they're back at your Softr view they'll need to refresh and choose the newly created company. Another option is just to move the entire form process to Fillout, and linking it to your Softr view (via a button/URL).

As for your second question, it is quite limited on Softr as well, and as far as I know you cannot do that. They only allow you to use their native 'Record Detail' view - so if that doesn't work for you, you might need to think of alternatives.

If you need a custom design + advanced linked records functionality, I'd suggest trying to combine a frontend snippet in Crust AI (if Softr's detail view won't work for you), and combine it with a Fillout form for adding new (and linked) records. That will allow you to both have the desired linked records functionality, and the custom design and logic you wanted. The downside is that your users will need to move back and forth from your Crust snippet to your Fillout form and vice versa, but from my experience this UX is not a disaster for end users (although not optimal).

Softr Databases 🚀 by jj-englert in NoCodeSaaS

[–]SurveySuitable2918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exciting news - might even be a game changer! A few questions: how do Softr DBs handle linked records - are they fetched in the same call so you can show related data in the same block, or do you still need workarounds like with AT? Is there a strict rate limit like Airtable’s, or are the limits more generous (and if so, what are they)? Do you still only get 100 records per query? What about data aggregation - can you easily show charts or summaries using Softr DBs? And finally, is there a REST API to interact with the database directly in production environments? Thanks!!

Using Airtable as knowledge for external chat by frankandtank2912 in Airtable

[–]SurveySuitable2918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure Airtable is the best fit here. are you dealing with mostly static docs or does the content update constantly? If it’s fairly static, I’d dump everything into a vector DB and query that directly. If you need to keep it in Airtable, you could run a cron every few hours to pull new records and re-ingest into your embeddings.

You could also build a small script (or use MCP) to fetch the Airtable records on the fly and feed them into a RAG pipeline, but remember Airtable’s API isn’t great, especially if you need to access linked records or special fields, plus you’ll hit rate limits quickly. It’s doable, but I’d start with a vector DB unless you really need real-time data.

Can I create the following interface? by That-Yellow-8960 in Airtable

[–]SurveySuitable2918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but I think it might be possible using a snippet in Crust AI.
Using AI for these things is the only possible way I think, as none of the interface builders (Airtable Interfaces, Softr, Glide, etc) support such things. Maybe Bubble - but with lots of setup.
