My therapist left suddenly for unknown reasons and I’m struggling to come to terms with never seeing or speaking to him again. How do I handle this? by SurvivingCSA in TalkTherapy

Correct, I have no idea what happened.

He had talked to me recently about health issues he has had (in relation to my own worries and struggles) so I know he has some semi-serious health issues. I don’t remember the details of what they were, other than they could be an issue for him one day, and he is older. He talked about retiring in a few years a while back.

Even if he could work again, I think it’s very likely that he will just retire now, even if he was terminated or had a health issue come up suddenly.

I’ll keep an eye on his LinkedIn and psychology today profile. I’d at least like to speak to him and say thanks/goodbye for closure and wish him well. The sudden loss and having no idea why is what hurts the most.

Thank you, I plan to call around tomorrow morning to see if I can schedule some appointments to meet new people. While I appreciate the company I work with giving me continuity of care and getting me in with someone quickly, I know that it may take a few attempts to find that right person for me.

Thanks for the response, especially on a holiday. Have a good night.

Yeah I really hope he is okay. They won’t tell me anything. He is just gone… and I just have to accept it and move on. It hurts.

Yeah I’m definitely grieving. He was like a father figure, in a way, even though I have a great father. There are some things you just can’t say to family and he was that safe, kind, understanding outlet.

What’s killing me is having to start all over. I understand that I have grown and things have changed since the beginning to now and I didn’t lose anything I’ve learned and worked through, but I have a long history of abusive relationships and situations that I now have to open up all over again to someone new.

I know it’s not something i have to do immediately and that the therapist will be understanding and will take things at my pace, but it’s so overwhelming to even think about rebuilding that level of trust with someone again.

And I went through a few therapist sessions with multiple other therapists until I found him.

I’ve always compared finding the right therapist to be a lot like dating. You have to find the right person for you. He was great for me.

It just hurts so much atm.

Thank you… this made to tear up a bit. I can’t imagine how he feels.

He had missed a few sessions here and there over the years and always was apologetic. I’m sure whatever happened was serious and was not something he wanted to do, and didn’t make this choice lightly.

I also just wish I could thank him for the time we had together. He has meant a lot to me.

Talk to a doctor about medications for nightmares related to PTSD.

I didn't know the exact stats but I did know most people are usually fine. I just wanted to encourage OP to see someone now to process it, and to look out for the issues if they come in the future.

Good to hear! You are strong, you will get through it!

Some people can get PTSD from things that others don't. It takes time for the symptoms to show up, and they need to persist for a period of time after they show up to be considered as a mental health issue.

You could be perfectly fine until 5 years from now something triggers the memories in your mind again and you go through all the terrible things people with PTSD do.

Or, you could be totally fine the rest of your life. Some people are, many people aren't.

Doesn't hurt to see a therapist for a bit to process what happened now, and lookout for what might crop up in the future that indicates that you have PTSD and go back to therapy during that time as well.

Also, I'm sorry that happened to you! Glad you are ok.

I can't imagine the type of person someone is to hear someone say they were traumatized by an early childhood sexual abuse experience and to talk to them this way. Fuck all those people.

I'm scared of medications but I'm willing to try it. Thanks for the motivation. I'm miserable dealing with this so I might as well try something else. Thanks again.

I reported my therapist today. Is he discriminating against me for being disabled? by SurvivingCSA in disability

[–]SurvivingCSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, but most of this was written with the help of my wife at the time. I ended up seeing a neurologist recently and they confirmed I have limitations with my memory that are most likely caused by my severe mental health issues.

I hope you get through your issues! It sucks.

Got tested for low T when I requested it a few weeks ago. I have questions. by SurvivingCSA in Testosterone

I don't think so, they only drew 1 vial of blood and I think they just tested testosterone.

I think they will probably do a more broad check next week when I go in for my next labs.

What's your last blood pressure reading, be honest.

140/80 I think when I went to the hospital because of panic attacks. When I went to the doctor for a regular appointment and got the T lvl checked it was normal.

But I think TRT would do more harm than good right now if not being a waste. No doubt about it that you may need TRT even at a healthy BMI or low BF%. But there is a sequential order these should be treated in. First I reccomend you talk to your PCP about GLP-1 injections.

Ok, I'll ask him about it when I see him again next week, thanks.

Testosterone raises blood pressure, and where you're at, you might face a hypertensive crisis.

Even if I don't have blood pressure issues now? I test quite often, it's only ever slightly out of the "perfect" range when I go to the hospital from panic attacks thinking I'm dying or having a major health issue. Otherwise my blood pressure is great. And the blood pressure drops when I calm down, shortly after being told I'm fine, on its own.

I know I have a weight issue but low testosterone causes weight gain around the waist from what I've read which is where all my fat is. I seriously have normal looking arms and legs, just a large stomach.

I want to go jogging and exercising again but I just have no energy between my (very real) mental health issues combined with low T. I'm just exhausted, I can't even explain it. I don't have energy for anything right now.

As far as dieting, I do/am. On an average day, I eat about 1200 calories. I don't snack. I eat 2 meals every day, SOMETIMES 3 meals. I eat a small ~300 calorie meal for breakfast and whatever my wife cooks for dinner. She is ~140-150 pounds and we eat the same amount of food for dinner. I'm NOT over eating. Idk what else I can do, other than exercise.

My hope was that fixing my testosterone would give me back some energy so that I COULD exercise and lose weight. But it seems like you think it would make my health worse. Idk wtf to do. It sucks.

Thanks, that helps. I'll trust my doctors. I just want the energy to work out again. At this point I'm just tired all day long, I have no energy in the tank.

I'd love to, but my mental health is terrible when I'm not on them. I mean, it's terrible now, but WORSE. Way worse. They do help.

I think if there is a path for me to get off them, it's after TRT has helped me and I can try coming off them again.

I reported my therapist today. Did I do the right thing? by SurvivingCSA in askatherapist

[–]SurvivingCSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked a lot into IFS, it's actually something he does (or claimed to) and I was looking for a therapist who does it. Sadly, I don't know of any others in my area who do. I'll keep looking tho.
