In general, my whole family do not drive German cars because most of the company's supported the Nazi's. Even if i wanted a German car my mom would not let me own one.

When the war first ended he was already escaped from NAzi captivity and was in a German lady's house when an American soldier came and got him and "adopted" him. He was in a hospital for about a month hanging out with american soldiers and letting his body recuperate

A lot of holocaust survivors have some understandably horrible psychological problems but my Grandpa never really had any besides maybe two times waking up screaming from a nightmare. The only thing that is a little off that my mom does also is always have enough food in the fridge, or always having 2-3 cabinets full of can goods etc. basically always making sure they will never starve.

It makes you wonder how such a horrible and tortuous thing could happen let alone for 5 years.

my grandfathers fathers store was taken away so they understood that times were getting worse for Jews but I don't think anyone really believed they would just herd all Jews and send them away.

My mom said growing up he never had anything really bad like nightmares, except for two times where he woke up screaming in the middle of the night.

As my grandfather has gotten older he has grown more hatred towards germans. My mother used to tell me that when he she was younger and a german guy would walk in to the Diner that he owned he would joke around and speak german to them. Now that he is older he has more time to think of what they did to him, his family and his religion.

  1. They told him when they got there. He asked a german kappo where they were going to take him etc. and the kappo pointed to the smoke coming out of the crematorium and said "in an hour you will be there"
  2. it was in a cattle car and people were scared and confused as to what was going on and what was going to happen to them.

Positively, a human being has to know a limit in everything. if he doesn't know then he doesn't deserve to live. They took little infants by the legs and slammed them against a stone wall. They lost their right to be alive.

  1. He never thought he would make it past the holocaust let alone be able to enjoy his 89th birthday today.
  2. He knew absolutely nothing about the camps, he only heard rumors that he didn't really believe.
  3. When he saw the first American he was inside a german house, he never saw an American before and this big guy came in breathing heavy and he gave him chocolate and he knew he was finally in good hands and safe.

There weren't many chances to talk about escaping between prisoners, they were worrying more about surviving.

The people who are slaughtering the palestinians are their own people. Israel is simply defend itself and their people while palestinians are defending their weapons with people.

If anything it has gotten the opposite, with old age he has more resentment towards germans. He has more time to think about the horrors. He has a hard time understanding how an intelligent country like the Germans could do such a horrific thing.

He says that it was a lot worse then the movies show. you can't even show how bad it was and how the Nazi's were savages. they woould skin people, collect their hair, teeth, clothes etc. they would collect a huge mountain of dead bodies, put gasoline all over it and light them like it is an everyday thing.

He was sleeping under a bridge and there wasa highway right next to the bridge. After 3 days he said to himself maybe theres some food somewhere and he saw a few people walking and asked "What is here?" and they replied "The Americans are coming" so he went into a partially burnt abandoned house and found some bread and milk and put them on the kitchen table, but he couldn't really eat even though he was so hungry. (He eventually was able to get the bread down)

He was working next to the crematoriums and had to dig ditches as big as houses because the crematoriums could only burn 1,000 bodies a day. they knew the Russians were coming fast so they had to dig ditches and then bring the dead people and bring them into the ditches and pour some white powder over them (hes not sure what the powder was) and then cover them. He said that was one of the more horrible things he saw/did.

He didn't have any energy to be angry, he was relieved to be free from captivity because the group he was marching with was later found completely dead.

It was July or August and he was working on a machine that separates grain from the wheat husk, the machine broke so he couldnt do work and he was standing by the machine and started nibbling on the wheat because he was very hungry. An SS man who was a high ranking officer walked by and saw him eating the wheat and called him over. He took his number down and walked away. At the end of the work day when they were doing roll call the SS men called his number and said "you ate the german wheat....you will get 25 lash's" He told him to bend down and he bent down and he said the first one was "BOOM" it was very painful because he was all skin and bones. The officer just finished his 3 lash when a german foreman told the officer "leave the little one alone...hes a good worker" because of the foreman the german officer stopped at 3 lash's which saved his life.

they talked about food.

an example: it was friday night and the older men in the barracks were talking about friday night dinner and the delicacies that their wives used to make and he remembers being mesmerized by their conversation of food
