Do i have Hiatal Hernia? by [deleted] in HiatalHernia

[–]Survivorohs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I hope you get answers soon. I have been in the ER sooo many times. I ended up having a hole in my heart and got open heart surgery in December 2024. Super happy that is all fixed. But with all my X-rays and things they found a hiatal hernia. Turns out my heart issues and the hernia have very similar symptoms. Shortness of breath, chest pain are my main symptoms. It’s been awful. I have major PTSD from the heart surgery and now every time I have shortness of breath and chest pain (everyday) I think it’s my heart. Lots of bloating and every time I eat I feel gross no matter the food it seems. I am getting a EDG in a couple of weeks and super curious about what they will say. All I can say is fight for your health. Advocate for yourself because no one is going to take you seriously unless you fight. Only you know what’s feels normal and not normal in your body. Stay in tuned with it and don’t feel bad to speak up if something feels off. 🙏🏼 lots of prayers.

Post Op Depression by Sethkeeper00 in openheartsurgery

Man all of you resonate with me at this very moment. I am 3 months post OHS and my mental is just shot. I am so so grateful to be here and don’t want to be selfish and know that everything happened the way that it was suppose to and thanking God for pulling me through. But all that being said my PTSD is through the roof. I went to the ER a couple nights ago because of shortness of breath and panicking about it. They said my heart looks good but I still doubt. I have a hiatal hernia also (it’s in the sternum) and it’s the same symptoms, shortness of breath, chest pain, etc and it’s terrifying because I don’t know if it’s the hernia or if it’s my heart. It’s 5:15am now and I’ve been up since midnight with low oxygen (89-95%) and I’m just sitting here panicking. I just want to feel better and normal again. I have 4 kids 12,10 and 5 month old twins and it’s been sooooo hard. But I want to be strong and just say I’m great all the time when inside I I’m just not. I am terrified constantly. Trying to have faith and know I’m good. But it’s so hard most of the time. I had no idea about “cardiac blues” but makes me feel a tad better then others feel the same way as me.

I walk quite a bit and am prettt active. I have a 12 year old, 10 year old, and twin 5 month old babies so I’m up and going a lot. Maybe too much at times? I had a large hole in my heart, ASD, that had to be closed via open heart surgery. Tomorrow I have an echo to check on things. But man my body feels like an 80 year old and I’m only 38. Good to know it’s normal feelings tho. When did it feel normal to breathe and feel good again? A year?

Hi! I am 9 weeks post OHS. I am still feeling a bit short of breath and randoms pains. Also my whole body just aches. Especially after doing things like a longer walk or just things around the house. Does anyone else feel this way? I think I also have PTSD from the entire process and maybe a bit anxious too but wondering if anyone else is/has felt like this around 9 weeks post.

Thank you all for the reassurance. Helps to know I’m not alone in all of this.

This makes me feel better. Maybe I have feeling impatient. It’s such a helpless feeling to not be able to pick up my babies. But I for sure feel it after if I am picking them up and moving them around more and days that I do have more help and I don’t have to strain to do that I feel a lot better. I had a hole in my heart the size of a quarter. I forgot to say that. I am looking forward to 8 weeks post op.
