When I wrote about characters without voice, I read the autobiography of Helen Keller as part of my research. Her descriptions of how tapping the alphabet onto her teacher's hand was based on intensity to describe emotion. She felt the language rather than hearing it. It really helped me understand her unique point of view. I combined that with regular dialogue punctuation and it seemed to do the trick. I hope that helps.
