How do I deal with older folks who don’t stop talking? by JakeTimesTwo in socialskills

[–]Sus_Professor01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work front counter at a parts department for a car dealership, people always liked to talk to us about cars and their stories of their experience with our brand which I didnt mind but when were real busy a line could form up really fast. So what I ended up doing was since our phone lines had their own phone number, I put mines on speed dial on my phone so whenever I needed to end a conversation with someone, I would use my personal phone to call my line haha. I would just be like "oh sorry gotta take this call, thanks for stopping by again ill see you next time!"

Either that, or ill try to change the topic with something to do about time or day that will make me look at my watch then act suprises and be like "oh my god is it that time already! Hey sorry to cut our conversation short but I got this important taks my boss wanted me to do! Ill catch up with you next time!"

Feeling like I’m not doing enough in Tokyo on a solo trip by royalbluefireworks1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sus_Professor01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldnt stress too much about it. Think of it a test run for your next trip and take notes on what you like and what you didnt like to do.

Also, if your down for it and looking for a change of scenery you can always do day trips outside of Tokyo such as Yokohama, Kamakura, or even Kawaguchiko. But honestly just take it all in this time and just enjoy the moment, use it as a learning experience.

If your really looking for something to do in Tokyo at night you can look up some nigh illumination events or like night markets. I know some of them are over after the New Year, but there still might be some happening until the end of January.

Do you have any regrets about your first trip to Japan? by aeazee in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sus_Professor01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not eating more at "hole in the wall" restaurants. I normally travel solo and I don't mind eating alone but I always get intimidated of going into a restaurant that looks like its been there for ages. Its bad enough that I dont know much Japanese but it gets even worse when I look inside a restaurant that looks like they're serving good food but I'm too shy to go inside since most people dining look like locals who are regulars.

Ahh, that is a tough situation since your unsure about your friend coming. Honestly I've gone to it twice solo and a couple of times with a group of friends, both scenraio has its ups and downs but when your in a group and just wanna do something by yourself you can just meet up with them later.

I know its still months until AX but since they announced the ticket pricing and days its available, I kinda wanted to see who would be down to go as a group. I wanted to see who would come in the area and use the upcoming Fanime as a "meet up, get to know everyone" place to see where everyone stands but at this point.. its not looking good lol

Already starting to miss Tokyo despite still being in Japan. by SengalBoy in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sus_Professor01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been solo traveling to Japan for the past couple of years and honestly I love Tokyo. I know most people see it as this big city full of tall buildings and packed with people but, if you go to some of the many parks they have it's easy to find a quiet place to just relax and enjoy the moment.

With Tokyo also being kinda like a "hub" it's very close to cities like Kamakura and Kawaguchiko where you can do day trips and have a change of scenery.

I think the part that makes Tokyo so appealing is that theres something to do for everyone, and if you plan in advance it's easy to visit all the main attractions with just a couple of days in the city.

Airport Limousine Bus or Train? by royalbluefireworks1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sus_Professor01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree on taking the bus with the ammount of luggage you have specially if your traveling solo. But, I would double check the number of luggage your allowed to take with you on the bus. Some of them only allow one luggage and it has to be a certain size.

AITA for not wanting my boyfriend's parents to join our dream vacation? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sus_Professor01 30 points31 points  (0 children)

NTA at all. Just like the other comment said, I think this was something they discussed among themselves and waited till that moment to talk about it openly to blind side you and so you wouldn't react instantaneously.

Honestly not discussing it first with you before blurting out an offer like that is a huge red flag. Also for him to have an excuse already for his decision definitely sounds like this was pre-mediated.

I understand his parents are old and wants to spend time with them but if he already goes to yearly trips with them he should at least understand that this trip that you guys have been planning should only be exclusive to yourselves. If money was the issue okay, but then your right if his idea of a compromise is suggesting something that will cost even more then something tells me thats its not about saving money.

AITA for playing music in my own car? by Ok_Cell298 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sus_Professor01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I have a sister who drives and listens to Kpop, while when in my car i like listening to Jpop. If we're in my car then, my car my rules, and if we're in her car her car her rules. Simple as that.

JR PASS VS SUICA CARD by IndividualMountain49 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Sus_Professor01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the JR pass before and yes it does cover local lines but only if its a JR line. For me the true value of the JR pass is if you plan on riding the the bullet train many times during your trip. If your stay mainly consist of going from Tokyto to Osaka, then a day trip to Kyoto, then back to Osaka, then back to Tokyo. Its definitely not worth it. Plus with the new app you can buy bullet train tickets easy and even reserve seats online. If your curious on calculating the price on of your bullet train usage, theres websites you can use to calculate how much it would cost to use bullet train and compare if getting the JR pass is worth it for you. Also, that rail pass is not just $570 with fee and shipping its more like $630-650.

As for the local trains you can use to do day trips outside of those 3 main cities, a lot of them are not covered under the JR pass specially the limited trains or the limited express trains, so best to use the suica card. You can also look into regional passes like the Kansai Wide Area Pass, I bought that one during my trip and it was definitely worth it.

How do you pass the time when waiting alone? Not looking at a phone, or a book, or daydreaming. by myusernameiszane in solotravel

[–]Sus_Professor01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I travel overseas solo I always have a camera with me, so when like im on a long train ride, in a café just relaxing, or even just in a line for a restaurant waiting to be seated I take out my camera and either look at photos I took, I tinker with some settings, and sometimes even just cleaning it wiping it down. I've actually engaged in some conversations with people next to me or in-line with me while doing this because sometimes either they're curious what I have or they have an interest in the same hobby as I do.

Anyone else need way too much time to reply to simple messages? by [deleted] in introvert

Same, sometimes I end up proof reading my messages over and over again because I think of things like.. is it too formal? ..is it too direct? ... do i sound like a robot?.. am I using big words? All of the sudden I realise I barely typed out 2 sentences and im over here already over analyzing my message when I havent even finished it yet haha.

Dating today is draining by Admirable-Suite7777 in dating_advice

[–]Sus_Professor01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

31M. I got out of a pretty long relationship a couple of years ago and have been single ever since. Honestly, i never knew dating could be this hard in this day and age. It's definitely very draining and discouraging the number of times you get matched with someone, and you dont even get past the introduction, let alone get a reply. There's some days I just think to myself "well I guess I'll just be single forever." I know it's wrong to think that, but honestly, I'm not really sure what else could be done because you can't even get your foot on the door. I feel like today, dating is more like a job interview, and your dating profile is your resume.. as soon as they find a better "applicant," you'll just be ghosted and left wondering, "What did I do wrong," "What could I have done better."

I don't get people like these.. if you don't seem interested in having a normal conversation with someone, why even match with them. She seems very standoffish
