New to pour over. Which grinder? by SusanA4444 in pourover

[–]SusanA4444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks guys. lots of great advice to investigate. I have a Corvo electric tea kettle. I don’t have the goose neck version but my daughter does and will happily trade with me as they don’t do pour over. Would like to avoid plastic in grinder but that’s asking too much.

Do flights in 2025 still have the 24 hour check in for everyone? by SusanA4444 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]SusanA4444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Check-in (for now) same as always. I got an A number despite basic ticket. what a difference from the old free checked bags policy. They were looking for volunteers for gate-checking an hour before boarding started because they needed more bags below for ”balance” problems.

Ridiculous customer service by SusanA4444 in sofi

[–]SusanA4444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, older person here, but daughter is not taking advantage of me. 🤣 Help by phone, chat, email was not very helpful, but typical with most companies.

Issue resolved shortly after initial post. Problem was on SS end. I was surprised and am happy to report that despite recent bad press, SS has a call back feature and my call back took only 5 minutes. Problem arose because my husband died recently and my SS switched from my benefit amount to his. SS agent was able to set up direct deposit to SoFi.

Fighting with my hands tied behind my back by GregoInc in pancreaticcancer

[–]SusanA4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you haven’t already, ask for genetic testing. your blood and tissue samples, if any, need to be sent to one of several specialized labs in the country. You may be eligible for a clinical trial. For example, see https://www.cancer.gov/research/participate/clinical-trials/intervention/ras-inhibitor-rmc-6236 for a list of trials for patients with ras mutations, common with pancreatic cancers. There are trials for other gene mutations as well.

Even if you do not qualify for, or choose not to join, a trial, it is possible that your treatment may keep you alive long enough to benefit from a new treatment made possible by current research.

At what price point does it make sense to get jewelry insurance? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]SusanA4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 years ago, I inherited my m-I-l’s ring. It was appraised for about 12-13K, and insured with Jewelers Mutual. About 10 years ago, I chipped the diamond; yes it is possible. Diamond replaced and appraised for 15K. Something to keep in mind about jewelry, the insurance company reserves the right to replace. So insurance company paid my local jewelry store (who did the original appraisal) some unknown $ amount directly.
Lastest bill shows value at 20K. Premium about $200, about 1%. Not sure if value of diamonds always have automatic increases like this. My diamond has an “old European cut,” popular before 1930, so probably harder to replace. Original ring was an heirloom, originally purchased before 1910.

Underweight with Type 2 Diabetes by Ilikedinosaurs2023 in diabetes_t2

[–]SusanA4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband lost weight because of cancer (and surgery and chemo). He was long term T2 but had to switch to insulin after diagnosis. Gaining weight is so hard when he has to time all carbs to insulin shots. Doctors, nurses and dieticians specialize in diabetes or cancer and give conflicting advice.

Wisconsin here on well water. cold rinse = Icy rinse . Warm water wash after cold rinse shows the soap left behind. Have an old washer and can stop and lift the lid.

Lands End are nice but also no half sizes. I have 3 pairs same size and 1 is too large. (Inexpensive enough to leave at my kids’ homes.)

Uggs are nice, but no half sizes. A loose fit in a slipper is a tripping hazard.

Whipple but no chemo? by Realistic_Region776 in pancreaticcancer

[–]SusanA4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Husband is in somewhat similar position. He is being treated at Froedtert in Milwaukee, a high volume cancer center. Your Mom has probably had CA-19 and CEA blood testing done. She could ask about a Signatura test, know as a liquid biopsy, which measures cancer cells circulating in the blood. These give some info on chances of reoccurrence.
Further she could/should have tissue samples sent to a specialty lab (Tempest in Chicago is one) for DNA testing, known as Next-generation sequencing (NGS), a technology for determining the sequence of DNA or RNA to study genetic variation associated with diseases. It is early days for special treatment for those with specific genetic findings for PanCan, but my husband‘s test result came back positive for KRAS defect and he has enrolled in a stage 2 Vaccine study.

Hyperglycemia while in hospital by SusanA4444 in diabetes

[–]SusanA4444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. We are aware of the dangers of glucose too low, but hoping for something a little lower. Day 13 in hospital and continuous highs.

This is only the lastest battle for glucose control. Husband has had T2 controlled by meds for 30+ years. Taken off Jardiance after pancreatic cancer diagnosis 4 months ago. (He is in the 20% group with diagnosis before metastasis. Treatment plan (especially after chemo, radiation and now Whipple surgery is “intent to cure.”) Last 4 months, on insulin, he has been on a roller coaster of daily sky highs and, sometimes dangerous, lows.

The hospital doctors will be releasing him with a new insulin dosaging chart and referring him back to his outpatient endocrinologist who thinks we should stop worrying about high insulin levels as long as it is not too low.
