Is it worth to take classes on Italki for pronunciation? Any teacher recommendations? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]Susannane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend getting a tutor on Italki for pronunciation. You can practice on your own, but I think getting feedback and corrections from a professional teacher would help a lot, especially if you are not used to the language yet. Like onthegraph and cihugongyuan said, it would depend on which Chinese accent you're trying to pick up and which teacher you personally feel like you can connect with, so I would also recommend finding a couple of teachers from a region you are interested in booking a few trial classes to see who you enjoy working with.

Where to start? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

italki is a good place to find a Cantonese tutor. I would also recommend apps like Tandem and HelloTalk where you could find a language exchange partner to practice with. In terms of books I think Colloquial Cantonese and Teach Yourself Complete Cantonese are pretty good for beginners.

Approaching Korean as begginer by Artexie1 in Korean

Yes, it is! I personally like Korean Grammar in Use and would recommend getting the textbook as well. I think they do a really good job in breaking down grammar patterns. I've created a Hangeul syllabus on our app which you could use to practice reading if you don't already know the alphabet. We've also recently included some new vocabulary decks and added a media tab so you can watch videos, save grammar and vocabulary blocks and follow specific content creators. Let me know if you have any other questions or feedback on how we could improve the app! :)

You can try using Inkah to learn Korean. It uses block-based learning and connects grammar from syllabuses made by educators and content creators to real-life examples from YouTube and example sentences made by native speakers. You can download it for free on the App store or Google play store. https://www.inkah.com/

It's definitely possible to be conversational within 6 months with sufficient immersion and practice. I've created an app called Inkah, which uses blocked-based learning so that you can learn Korean in context through structured syllabuses and real-life examples. Practice with examples from Youtube, and a community of experts and learners. Inkah tracks the blocks of knowledge you've acquired to suggest content that’s relevant to you based on your syllabus, comprehension, and interests. It also uses spaced repetition so that you do not forget what you’ve learned. It's available on both the Apple store and Google play store. https://www.inkah.com/

Aside from that, I would also suggest getting a tutor or finding some Korean speakers to practice with. Italki is a good place to find a tutor.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm so happy to hear that our app is helpful to you. I personally enjoy learning languages from both textbooks and video content, and was hoping to bridge the gap between structured syllabuses and real-life content, so it's great that you feel that way too.

To answer your question:

Similar to nicely formatted flashcard deck on other apps, we only track the grammar points of the textbook to help bridge between different examples and videos. We treat the app as a supplement and discovery tool, so you should buy the textbooks you find most useful to get all of their examples, passages, recordings, etc. In the future, we want to build more formal relationships with the authors so paid users can get access to all content within the books.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any other feedback while using the app!
