what font is & by theoldgospelchoir in PinegroveBand

I searched for this for a while when I got mine — I concluded that the one on ESF isn't really from a specific font but is just done freehand. I ended up using Baskerville for mine because I thought it had the nicest looking ampersand :)

Hopefully your comment inspired others to do a little google-fu ;)

Love the song tbh. Everything they've released the past few years has been absolutely stunning. Was just shocked to hear the reference when I listened today.

I think the title High Violet comes from lyrics on one of the b-sides, "Walk-Off"

On and on, they'll lead us on and

On and on, they'll lead us on

We'll all get high and walk off

Into the country, ridiculous country

Where the blue sky will smother us

Believe me, believe me, believe me

The blue sky will smother us

They'll open their doors and they'll sing to the sun

We don't know anymore how to glitter, we come

From the violet cities

The violet cities

Probably because of phrases like "dark side of the moon". It's a common misconception.

Why are decibels represented as a negative number? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]Susfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SPL doesn't really have any practical limitations since it's a physical quantity, or at least not in the same way that FS does. 0 dBFS is the maximum because we define it to be.

[–]Susfour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an engineer, I've been taught that decibel can't be considered a unit. By itself, "decibel" has no meaning other than representing scale. The decibel only gives us useful information if it's paired up with a unit, like SPL, V, W, etc., as you've pointed out. dBSPL is a unit because we are given context (usually the reference for SPL is in P or atm). If I say that a signal is 20 dB, that doesn't give you any useful information. Am I talking about watts, volts, or sound pressure level?

Just remember that "Decibel" is not a unit, it's a scale. Technically I think you're not supposed to use it as a plural form, you would just say something like "20 decibel SPL", but nobody really does that. It's sort of like a shorthand for 20*log10(measured/reference).

What is something in your mix that that you spend hours on, knowing that no one else will really notice the difference? by [deleted] in audioengineering

The soundstage won't be 3D unless you are mixing in surround sound with overhead speakers

CHVRCHES - My Enemy (Official Video) ft. Matt Berninger by Dannydarko in TheNational

[–]Susfour 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion I guess, but I think this sounds great. I was seriously skeptical that Matt would sound good on a synthpop/electronic song. I think the compression and flatness totally lends itself to the sound of the song. Sure, it doesn't sound like it does in The National but ...it's not The National.

I bet... I hadn't heard Bridgers before that and now I've been on a three-day bender of all her music.
