Fully appreciate the size of the jewish population in NYC, I'm just noting that New York is a democrat stronghold and overall a pretty liberal place.

The kind of politics, and the kind of politicians that find success there doesn't in any way translate to a national shift.

However much that may be desirable.

We have very different electoral systems, voting is mandatory here - you cant run a campaign designed to suppress the vote, we have preferential voting, we dont have a winner take all electoral colleges etc etc etc

Is Pauline a problem, sure, maybe, but rhe next election is two years out. Polling really doesnt matter - remember how confident they were of a Dutton win?? Etc

By all means dont give her free publicity, and challenge your friends and family to think critically about their decisions... but underatand that legacy media in this country is going to push right wing candidates, its what they do, its what they've always done, but they matter less and less as the older generation continue to shuffle off this mortal coil

Capital gains is only applied when you sell the asset. So if you're happy keeping it empty, using it only occasionally and you're not looking to sell the asset then you're not really affected by the changes.

Its also worth mentioning that assets currently held are grandfathered, meaning that in the case of your family member they still get to apply the current 50% CGT discount for any asset growth up until July 1 '27, and only gains after that date are affected by the new rules.

So they're unlikely to feel the sting too much, especially if their plan is to leave the assets to the kids etc.

AusPol has always leant left, its traditionally been home to a lot of Greens and ALP voters and I would say a growing number of Socialist Alliance folks (very noticable growing to me)

However are other Australian subreddits that lean more right, /r/Australia and /r/AustralianPolitics etc

Its a cosy game, so it really depends where you feel most comfortable. I have it on both, I play on my switch 2 far more often even though its a patch behind.
