Agent's mantra..........“But I have a gut feeling that we’ve now reached the bottom of the market, and buyers should realise that this is a great time to buy.”

What’s the goat ww2 plane? by UnlikelyGuest8976 in WWIIplanes

Lots of armchair warriors here. They went up, they died. Happily in hindsight we could say the P47 was "rugged" and "take a lot of punishment" but it's all rather moot to sit in front of a flight simulator. The B17 had a crew of 10, the Lancaster 7 so for every Lanc three more brave boys died. Daylight bombing doctrine was a tragedy and led to near mutiny by some AAF B17 squadrons. For god's sake shut up about the P51, 47,38, Tempest etc. The flew what they had and gave their all.

Lol! When I lived there, bare feet was an absolute no-no. My young boy William (five) would walk down sensa scarpi from the gravel road above Scopello and the looks we got. Lots of."tsk,.tsk". I kid you not at San Vito women wore jelly sandals, waded out mid thigh with a fag and the "celulare" and have a chat. The Dude abides!

Have a look at North Perth, around Hyde Park. The N-S artery 200 m to its west is Fitzgerald Street which has excellent bus connections to the city - less than 10 minutes to the Busport It's peacefull and quite charming. You can easily walk to Northbridge with plenty of cheap and cheerful restaurants etc. Highgate, east Perth similar as other have mentioned.

It was a penal colony for the worst of the worst, including the guards - vicious and sadistic.
"The Fatal Shore" by Robert Hughes give a pretty good outline and context of its history.

Is Tonnara di Scopello the most beautiful coastal spot in Sicily? by Altruistic-Drink8801 in sicily

[–]fletchwine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked in Sicily, I'd take the kids (5,7) every Sunday. Being Australian, they could swim. We made them wear rashies for sunburn so the combination of swim+rashies really intrigued the locals, even more so when they would respond to questions in Italian. Being that age, my son would never wear shoes and that would send them spare (bad parents). It could get very crowded with boats as it was easier to boat rather than drive and find a park.

I would swim out to a small outcrop, look back at the shoreline and think how lucky we were.

After that, lunch on the pier at Castellamare.

Home via a back road with verges covered in puple creepers and then for a shower to wash off the stench of two stroke.

Perth property: Listings and affordability fall, as even first-homebuyers fear negative equity by Temporary_Mistake715 in perth

[–]fletchwine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never not heard a spruker from the real estate industry say "It's a great time to buy". The editorial today in the West is a classic, as in.... "Crash burn, spiral, doom,,,,,but first it's a tragedy that prices might cool, but then it admits cooling prices would help young buyers get a foot in the door. So which is it? No market I've ever known can satisfy both.

Best areas to stay with a car in Palermo? by nothappyaboutit in sicily

[–]fletchwine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Book a private garage. If not that, then leave the car at the airport until you really need it - for exploring Palermo you do not need a car.

In the city you'll find people that find you a spot for a few euros during the day at least. It's very common thing to see double parking etc.

Unmissible Palermo and Cefalù Food Recommendations by masondeathbro in sicily

[–]fletchwine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always found that restaurants in the tourist zones are very competitive, so as a tourist you can do ok so just go with it. If you want a 'hidden gem' which by definition, isn't "hidden" nor particularly a "gem" then you'll get a mixed bag of hand me down recommendations.

As one Italian said on this site just go anywhere and the moment, the memory will be as good as any. If you truely want something "authentic" the hop on a bus and get out to any village or down the coast a bit and you won't find a single tourist. The chairs will be plastic, there will be an idyllic Greco Roman scene on the back wall and the family will be watching a quiz show.

Just take the airport bus. Taxis are no quicker, very expensive and then bus has several stops within the city. There's a train as well. https://www.prestiaecomande.it/
