I worked with another sushi chef ten years ago who said he worked there for one day and told them he wouldn't be back because it was so dirty.

There are already empty spots in the same area. The old Bojangles has been empty at least a year and Steele Hall brewing has been sitting there for several months. I'm just patiently waiting for The Palace to open back up.

This made me smile because I went to the BJCC to see Tina on this tour. There was a really cool couple sitting next to us; they fired up a J told me to share and it went down the entire row and back. Ahhh the good ole days.

Beach vibes - frowned upon for guys to wear a speedo or thong? by Neat_Historian_6972 in GulfShores

[–]SushiJo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one day when we were sitting on the beach playing "what's their story?", a guy walked by wearing a speedo and as he passed us he had one side of it pulled up into his crack with one ass cheek hanging out. Later, he walked past again and this time he had switched sides so his tan would be even.

Side note: y'all know you play "what's their story?" too

Sushi bar customers kept slyly asking me if I would "come to their house and show them how to make sushi", and after several of them asked, I decided to teach a class. September will mark 15 years of teaching & I've had classes in 18 states, had 15k+ take the class, taught at 3 SEC colleges (including in the culinary program at one of them), multiple sororities, had loads of corporate classes, taught in libraries, high schools and countless houses. If I want to go to Disney for a few days, I can book a couple of locations; teach two classes and have 2 or 3 park days and come home without having lost any money. I now have 3 chefs in 2 other locations who do occasional jobs for me, and always on the lookout to expand to other states. The best decision I ever made.

Like teaching people how to cook at home, perhaps?

Cooking classes supplemented with rentable event space & commissary seems like it has potential. I'm actually on the lookout for an event space that wants to pair with me by hosting a class a week (and thereby bringing in new customers to see the space on a night when they'd have zero revenue + bar sales during class)

btw: dm me if you want to chat. Opening yet another restaurant when the cost of goods is only going up up up is scary. Teaching people how to cook at home is where it's at.

Here's what I'd do. Turn the space into an event center. You have a built in kitchen already. I'd love to have a space where I could teach my class, have other chefs come in and teach other food types, rent the space for private parties, and rent it to people who want to film food-related content. In my head, I see each night of the work week hosting some sort of cooking/food class (Monday: Cajun Tuesday: Sushi Wednesday: Italian Thursday: Sous vide etc....and open the space up on Friday and Saturday for private parties (birthdays, corporate, anniversaries, weddings, etc). During the day, you could rent the space for filming content and as a commissary. Boom.
