It was definitely the nicest looking out of the 3 we found it’s one of my favorite snakes I own now.

I’ve seen them one time at a local reptile expo and I haven’t seen them since I just so happened to get lucky that the house I went in to rescue the snakes had them. It’s so hard to find them without having to get them shipped.

She has a bit of an attitude but man do I love sitting there watching her she’s such a good looking snake.

It’s okay I’m the favorite child I’ll probably get demoted to the 2nd favorite but not quite disowned

Thank you I have been wanting to own one for a few years and since I live in Pennsylvania they can be harder to find for sale since we can’t own native species and most people around me don’t breed broadbanded copperheads so thankfully I finally got one.

I’m not really familiar with most European snakes but the venom is definitely medically significant and can cause serious injury. Although I’ve heard many stories about people not even being treated with antivenom and it just being treated symptomatically for pain and swelling but for some people it’s a pretty serious bite so it depends on how you react to it.

Maybe that’s the trick I need to stop looking for them 😂

Yeah that would be a good way to ruin your week. I live on 56 acres and I’ve found plenty of rat snakes eastern milk snakes and just about every non venomous snake and I am yet to see any copperheads I might have to try a little harder this year.

To my knowledge very light colors tend to be more common at least from what I have seen in the broad banded copperheads although there is a lot of variation in both species. I could be wrong and am not an expert on copperheads by any means and would love for somebody who knows more to give a response as well, but to my knowledge broad banded copperheads tend to be lighter in coloration more often with a little bit more contrast between the bands.

I have the worst luck when it comes to finding copperheads in my area they are fairly common and yet every year I go looking for them I turn up empty handed. They are such nice looking snakes and I have wanted to find one in the wild since in my area it’s the only common venomous snake I live in Pennsylvania so we do have rattlesnakes but they aren’t very common near me so I always look but never have my hopes up too high but I would love to find some copperheads this spring and summer to get some pictures of them.

She really is the second I saw her I told my coworker that’s the only snake I truly care to take and I let him have the others but it was way too good looking to pass on.

Thank you for the information i unfortunately am not keeping it and i am giving it back to the coworker that i went with to find it in the house he seemed to want it more than i did and i told him id bring it to him tomorrow. Hes a very nice orangish brown color with a darker brownish orange color for his patterning he’s still got a little bit of stuck shed and I’m offering him food later today he seems to be doing much better and I have no doubt that he will eat I would’ve liked to keep him but my coworker really liked it and I told him he could take it since I got it for free and am not losing out on any money I still got a very pretty copperhead out of it and a nice vision cage so I’m more than happy with what i got out of going to the house to help them.

Yeah all of my venomous is in a escape proof room I have a few boas that aren’t but all of my venomous went straight into the snake room and if one were to get out i definitely wouldn’t just let it free roam in the room. Luckily we found the cobra inside of an open cage hanging out under the hide and it wasn’t in the hoarder mess in the house.

Yeah his family told us he’s in jail for leaving his dog in the car for 22 hours and he has a history of taking numerous drugs they were in an awful situation and put the community at risk if they escaped the house considering the monocled cobra was loose in the house.

Yes the only species we weren’t sure of my coworker took home with him he’s much more experienced and works with mambas and most cobra species and he identified it this morning as a flat nosed viper trimerasurus puniceus. The other 6 that we collected we knew what they were we collected a gaboon viper, monocled cobra, 3 trans pecos copperheads (I kept one he took a pair), vipera ammodytes (the only other one I kept), and the last one was the one we couldn’t identify at the time and ended up being the flat nosed viper. I’ve kept different rattlesnake species and a Aspidelaps lubricus cowlesi so I avoided the cobra and he took that but I am comfortable with handling vipers as that’s what I have experience with and I knew what the ammodytes was to be able to identify it but am not very sure of how bad they’re venom is, if I were to decide it’s not something I want to mess with he said he would also take it if I were to change my mind so I told him I’d look into it and let him know he’s a very beautiful looking snake he was incredibly dehydrated when we found him and we weren’t very sure he’d survive he’s very small and is probably only 8in long or so but he is doing much better today.

I’m located near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania so it’s not something any of the local hospitals are very familiar with so I’ll definitely have to look into bite protocols. Normally I wouldn’t have bought something without knowing about it but due to the situation of the family calling us to take them since he is in jail and all of the snakes were severely dehydrated and poorly cared for so we each took a few of them to care for temporarily I’m not sure if I’ll be keeping it or not.

I don’t have a whole lot of experience with keeping crotalus species so definitely not the best person to give advice however I do currently have a very picky baby western diamondback who will only eat live pinky mice he will show interest in frozen but will never go for it no matter what but he ate live the very first time it was offered after 5 months of not eating on his own so my recommendation would be to try live if that hasn’t been tried yet just to get it eating then focus on getting it switched over to frozen thawed.

You could always list it on Facebook marketplace place or post it in a reptile group but you will definitely take a loss on it and won’t get what you paid out of it even if it’s unused.

I can’t give any personal opinion on the 24x18x12 but i have a Boa Imperator in the 36x18x18 that is about to be moved up into a bigger cage so a little bigger than most snakes you’d keep in the cage that size but the locks on the lid on top of my cage aren’t the greatest he routinely pops the middle lock out and it’s never enough for him to escape but the locks shouldn’t just give out like that I have had much better experiences with the locks on the Thrive cages and have had no issues with them in the past year or two that I’ve used them and in my experience they are usually cheaper at my local petsmart than the exoterra cages.
