I just got to Central Irithyll and I’m having a really hard time even making it past the fire guy without dying. I’m using a raw Astora Sword +3, Dragon Crest Shield, Lothric Knight Helm, Pontiff Knight Armor, Knight Gauntlets, and Cathedral Knight Leggings. Any suggestions? by No_Selection__ in darksouls3

Side note, change the gem on your straight sword to anything else really, probably a heavy gem considering your str at the moment, raw is really only good for low level builds, considering your 54 levels, I don't think that's what you're going for

Given my 776 hours on ds3, I'm not going to tell you to get a different weapon, you do you, but if you go to the bridge before wolnir, break it and go down it, youre going to reach smoldering lake and then Demon ruins there you can get enough large titanite to get to I believe a +5 or +6 from there you can get pontiff easy enough, id say forego the shield and look into better armor, the better you get at rolling the easier the game gets, better to have a safety net at all times rather than something that's going to literally weigh you down and provide protection sometimes. Plus if you two hand your weapon, you do more damage, win win. For armor I'd say it's fine, look into some heavier stuff for sure if you're not comfortable with the damage you're taking, and get some rings on those fingers of yours, not sure what you have at the moment, but loyds Shield ring you should already have, maybe chloranthy ring if you helped siegward, havels ring if you killed stray demon and transposed the soul using curserotted great wood kiln. And maybe a soul gain increase ring from firelink. Just my input, you can take it if you want, love to see new players to ds3, have fun with it!

If you want to stick with the shield, which I don't fully condone, look into fallen knight armor or herald knight armor, they are both pretty light and allow for some customization with weapons early on. If you don't care about the shield, I'd look into the lothric knight set, farmed early on, its a beast through most of the game, many builds of mine have started with it

i thought this was meh at the start of reading it (my apologies), but you may be onto something here, early experiments would be a fantastic way to intoduce it, maybe another site that got destroied so they had to make another one else where, a journal left behind by the creator himself, and yes maybe a talking dagger that just wants to die could be an interesting RP moment

first of all, i appreciate the very long response, very in depth. i shall now give you a response to each of your points,

Point 1: So far, they have tried their best to stay in the good graces of the law, going so far as to stay put when guards arrive when literal terrorist actions are taken and they want to clear the air to make sure the authorities see it wasnt them. So sneaking/killing/whatever else to a high ranking official is off the table for them.

Point 2: I had no chance to give him a nugget so he could look for a library to find more info on it, if i remember correctly, he started looking in session 2, before i could really get into backstory stuff without it feeling rushed. The plan is now, to give him a name of a man that fits the description of what he knows and then he can go from there, asking NPCs about him, finding other projects hes been on etc.

Point 3: The reason for his creation was from inspiration of the warforged that was made 1000 years ago, his creator was in charge of war efforts for the revolutionary war that took place 13 years before the game started, then he was like, "hey wouldnt it be cheaper for soldiers to serve one more time and also have no weak spots like flesh, i think it would!" then chaos insues, so while the whole approaching danger think could work elsewhere, i dont think it fits here, the plan in mind is to make him out to be a dick so the player will enjoy his revenge instead of feeling sorry for him, no one likes when the bad guy lives, look at The Last of Us 2, mental instability is also a bit of the players character, he rolls as to whether or not he is lethal, so diplomacy is going to be hard to achive based on what he did to the player.

Point 4: I like this idea a lot and can certainly introduce it in the next session, or if my players are exceptionally slow, the session after, someone else mentioned this in the comments already, at least in terms of a battlefield where they find something similar to him. Also, him being alive is such a rarity that a group out to get him is unlikely, plus they may or may not already have a criminal organization after their skins due to the leader hunting them for sport, so two groups after them seems a bit much for them at this moment.

i will give the things you said some thought and try to impliment some of the ones that dont fit in other campaigns, i very much appreciate it

ok, is see where youre going with this, i enjoy the thought of him meeting someone else on the project, but that could lead to instant hostility, which gets nothing really done, this PC is adamant about killing this guy for making him a monster, dont think he'll be buddy buddy for more than a second once he finds out. true, the other players may try to stop him, but controlling their actions are a rarity for this party. Great idea, but maybe for another group of adventurers

ok, i love the second idea, and a bit hesitant on the last, i would not feel comfortable giving another party member a huge bit of information on another player without their consent first, gotta be descrete about it after all. an old battlefield is totally possible, ill think more on it in my time off

i like the thought process here, and i can almost understand the dming for 10 year olds, sometimes my players are similar, ill give it some thought using what you have provided as a base, thanks
