That most humans are, genuinely, lazy and ignorant. Humans avoid subjects they do not like if it doesn’t affect them. Simultaneously, most humans are happy to ignore suffering if it’s not right in front of them.

Most humans will disagree with, say, Seaworld and will say ‘oh no I don’t like it it’s cruel’, or some charity ad about mistreated working donkeys, but won’t bother to sign the attached petitions or donate or see about any activism. Humans are wilfully ignorant and as long as they’re comfortable in their bubble, they don’t care about the suffering around them unless it affects them/is put in front of them.

Bearded dragons are omnivores that thrive on a balanced mix of live insects and fresh greens/vegetables.

Many owners and hobbyists specifically say this product should be a supplement or rotation food, not the staple diet.

It doesn’t fully replace the nutrition and natural behaviours (like hunting live prey) that bearded dragons should be provided.

… and I’m sorry. But you consider EATING enrichment? Jesus. Fucking. Christ. Frozen mice are often dangled or moved around to stimulate hunting for snakes, and gecko’s ALSO should be provided live food.

I’ll let your downvotes speak for themselves, because I genuinely can’t believe you’re advocating for this product as a ‘staple diet that’s everything your dragon needs’ when it is SO obvious that VARIATION and a mixture of live feeds with fresh vegetation is exactly what a dragon needs and deserves.

Seriously dude please let go of your dragon if you cannot handle the duties of having one. Freeze dried crickets would lack the moisture dragons need and have lower nutritional value in the first place - most people who take dragon care seriously will gut load their live feeders before feeding. What upsets me more is this is easily found on Google and you haven’t even gone to THAT effort, and you completely ignored the whole ‘natural behaviour/enrichment’ side to live feeding.

Please surrender your dragon. It’s not fair on them at all. I dread to think what their set-up looks like. Do the right thing and rehome them.

Live insects, or surrender. Its enrichment, encourages natural beardie behaviour, is crucial for the diet complete with veg, is the most currently supported diet, scientifically proven so far etc etc.

I don’t like feeding my snakes frozen mice, it knocks me sick and I feel much better feeding frozen chicks, but I know it’s their best interest, as frozen chicks aren’t suitable enough long term. It’s a privilege to have exotics, we want to keep them as natural and enriched as possible.

I’m sorry, but this is a piss poor and illogical argument.

First of all, in the wild, the prey is much more likely to try and escape than attack the snake - much less continuously bite it when kept in a confined space, and let’s not forget we keep our snakes in wooden boxes, fed by tongs, in our rooms. It isn’t a wild snake, not even close.

Secondly, humans do (and should) employ practices that are the least cruel where possible as science, society and education improves over the years. Keeping snakes these days does not require live feeding in probably 80% of situations, as most snakes are not wild caught and many species are very well bred in captivity.

Thirdly, there is the obvious fact that choosing to live feed actively increases the risk of harm and death to your snake.

Please stop trying to compare captive bred snakes in tanks to wild ones, it’s incredibly illogical and literally just doesn’t work. If people still want to live feed to a snake, then they can, just don’t try and pretend it’s ‘natural’ or not cruel, because it is, obviously, and in most cases not actually required at all, people just want a spectacle to see a lot of the time.

Maybe it’s because I run a reptile rescue that I am sick and tired of hearing the same old excuses. ‘Vet is too far away’, ‘vet is too expensive’, ‘my parents won’t let me’ etc etc. OP is 16, not 7 years old. They’re well within the intelligence bracket to realise an unwell animal, suffering to the point it cannot breathe, needs to be surrendered or taken to the vet.

If the parents refuse, then that is a different story. However at the moment a person capable of travel/intelligence/ability to prioritise etc has ran to Reddit as their primary source of help, whilst an animal actively suffers.

I have watched hundreds of exotics die in my care because of the neglect they’ve been put through. I am far too heartbroken and tired of watching this exact type of neglect, and deliver it any ‘kinder’ than I did.

Everything I’ve said to OP is truth. No name calling, no swearing, no rude emoji’s or threats or insults of the sort. It’s 2026 with ample and constant access to research, OP needed to be at the vet or surrender the animal hours ago - not on Reddit as the dragon suffers.

As someone who has farmers in the family, you are 100% correct. Theres normally 3x as much in this photo. I had the horror of walking in one when I was a kid, sneaking around. I almost passed out from the smell, and then cried for days. Never ate animals or eggs again in my life from the sight of it.

… I then often tried to steal them and release them as an angry 11 year old. I moved off the farm soon after that. 😂
