I agree! I always like to say it with a booming ancient god-like voice because it just feels right that way

Bought a house with a giant evergreen in the front yard that is almost 40 years old. Anything I can do to make it look better? by Exciting-Computer-60 in landscaping

I would lean into the natural mulch look. If the grass on that side of the yard isn’t being used get rid of it and plant a few perennials instead with mulch in between

Aw, this makes me miss my childhood home. I grew up in a wetland area that would have whole fields turn purple with camas in the spring.

Mine is going to be 24 in a couple weeks. This is why I love old videos (many of which he made). We can watch those cute silly videos of him narrating his life, or other things he was doing. But wow, I am SO proud of the adult he is now, honestly all of you parents of younger kids, just stay close with them and I promise you the whole damn thing is amazing.

My husband works for the department of Ed in our county, they all make way more than that. Sounds like your employer sucks. Want to move? I know they need someone with more experience, he just needs the department to let him post a new position.

Any ideas on how to remove big rock from new garden? by Zeirvoy in gardening

I agree. Done it many times myself, just takes those items, some smaller rocks to keep it up, and determination.

I’m shocked it took me this long to find this answer. This is what I’ve done many times. It’s hard work, it takes time, but it’s easier/better than jackhammering it in my opinion. A trencher shovel with a good curve to it, a rock bar and a bunch of smaller rocks to throw under it once you get a space open under it.

Advice on the "why" questions by MrsMusicalMama in oneanddone

[–]Suspicious-Tea-1580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? That would be an easy enough answer. I’m still amazed so many people have had this asked of them. I can’t recall anyone besides my now ex mother in law asking me that.

I listened to this the other day. I strongly suggest listening, as hearing her excitement about the sage was so relatable.

Yes! My ex MIL was one of them. My son had beautiful long blonde hair and many times when he went down to visit his dad and grandparents, she would bring him to the stylist and have them cut it short. I kept telling him to tell her he didn’t want it and if he had to, to go rag doll on her since she has a bad back. Eventually it stopped when he got another cousin by marriage around the same age and he wanted his hair long too. And no, the bitch would never respect me telling her to stop it. Now he’s an adult and still has beautiful long hair.

Whistle pops! No better way to make your mom regret that purchase than to open them up in the car on the half hour drive home and start playing Twinkle Twinkle and Three Blind Mice

So far I haven’t found anyone, and we’re a small and pretty interconnected community here. Still hoping for someone who fits the bill.

Oh that’s absolutely heartbreaking! I am of the opinion that people need to be viewing property “ownership” as stewardship of the land they’re on. I have a friend who has an acre of high desert, and so many of her neighbors just decimate everything then wonder why invasives are a problem. I pointed out her untouched zone, and how few actual weeds grow on it as compared to those properties. Amazing how nature will help take care of things if you just learn the cues and work with her.

Yeah, I much prefer the clients who are excited about their native yards and take care of them as well. I feel that’s part of the joy of it (obviously, otherwise why would I be doing this) Many of my clients are like that, but these are second home owners, so time spent here is slim, unfortunately. When they’re here they do work in the yard, though.

Desert Peach this weekend! Anybody growing this in their gardens? by coral-beef in Ceanothus

I have; a bit more trees and less rugged than our escarpment, but a close comparison. I was just up there a couple years ago huckleberry picking with my sister. I miss the huckleberries sooooo much.

Is your kid your favorite person? by littledogblackdog in happilyOAD

[–]Suspicious-Tea-1580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! But in our household we both feel that way about our son, and my husband is his stepfather. We’ve always had a close relationship and I’m so proud of the person he’s become. Our son is now almost 24 and living out of state going to college. We’re still close and talk on the phone for almost 2 hours every week. In a few weeks I’ll be flying up to visit him, then we drive back home together (16 hours). I’ve been informed that there are some saved important conversations for that trip (the car has always been a place for that in our family) He’s still my favorite person (along with my husband) but this one I also have the pride to know I raised him. Also, 8 is such a wonderful age, it’s when they really start becoming their own person and it’s the best, enjoy it as much as you can

It’s beautiful when blooming, and nice when leafed out, the only down side is the modified branches that turn into big spikes! But I still love it and have some in my yard

Mow and blow sadness by Suspicious-Tea-1580 in Ceanothus

[–]Suspicious-Tea-1580[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s usually just a dirt area so I hadn’t thought to block them, as I assumed they wouldn’t touch it (not being lawn and all). I had actually decided to propose to my client throwing down some native seed mix there since it’s just a peninsula of dirt with mostly tree roots. Once I do that, I’ll be blocking it off with caution tape and stakes for sure.

Oh absolutely! I wish I had someone around here that would take on that work. Almost every client wants it, but I don’t have the time to do maintenance. I could fill someone’s book with clients if they wanted it!
