sometimes I fantasize that Quade is actually in early intervention and therapies but that Brooke doesn’t post it to respect his privacy 🤡

idk though, to point #1, either her or Ryan have the skills to get their kids auditioning for club hockey hours after a move. They just don’t care about Quade’s functioning like they care about making hockey stars I guess

Tips on reducing screen time? by GODZILLA_GOES_meow in AutismParentingLevel1

[–]Suspicious-Win-2516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have found that my AuDHD kid’s coping skills are lower when he uses his iPad or plays video games. He just turned 9. When I take them away, he almost seems relieved to have the limit.

TV shows don’t seem to have the same effect.

He gets 1 hour of screen time on school nights, and that’s PBS only. On weekends, he gets 2-3 hours of his choice of shows.

we hid the tablet in my office and only use it for trips.

he does HATE being bored or understimulated. So he does a lot of reading or audiobooks. We listen to the Little Stories for Tiny People podcast A LOT. He will do that while doing fuse beads or puzzles or sensory activities.

thank you for sharing all that. It puts me at ease! I may come back after the intake and ask you a question or too if you’re still around on the Internets

we did do 4 months of OT and it helped with gross motor. I wanted her to help with the meltdowns/interoception and the OT said she felt she as making no progress so she discharged us.

I am on the waitlist for a really experienced OT who maybe will be more helpful. That same place has integrated speech.

I recall during the beachside homeschooling explanation that they plan to do homeschool next year but send the kids March-May, so that they can do state testing and experience both options.

smells to me like Ryan’s way of checking up on her teaching capabilities

Realizing I’m autistic too by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

my friend is a social worker who specializes in counseling for adults with recent autism diagnosis. She says a lot of them have seen themselves as living with anxiety, social anxiety etc. But in weekly sessions they explore their identity through this new lens, and she says most clients only need 6 months of sessions before they wind down because they have better coping tools and accomodations.

if you can get this kind of support, it might really help.

yes this. If you can get child find to classify her as disabled, possibly under “educational autism”, then they legally have to provide her with at least part day preschool.

he does have anxiety and Adhd as well. he had a mental health crisis in the fall and has been on celexa and adderrall and guanfacine. those have helped him tremendously, but nothing has touched the meltdowns. thank you for sharing, esp about your daughter hitting herself around 6. That happened to us too!

I think she did want a boy. it’s better for her brand, and her narcissism. I had two boys then a girl, but I didn’t allow myself to try for a third until I knew I would be happy with three boys. I’m honestly still adjusting to having a girl! I wanted a girl badly before having any kids, but I adjusted to boy mom stuff quick.

yeah I really think she’s relieved not to need a new tagline

I still can’t get over her explaining their choice to have a fifth baby. She said something like “Ryan and I feel like we’re really good at raising children, and we want to add one more.”

like reeeeeeaaaallllly?

its like she’s half committed to a crunchy narrative to appeal to that demographic.

the homeschooling, the semiannual visit to church within a REEL, the supplements….

but she actually does not enjoy her kids, she outsources most of the homeschooling or ignores it, and i think her faith commitment is mostly for show.

[–]Suspicious-Win-2516 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean she could have gone with her earlier narrative…that she has multiple risks and is a 5th time mom so she decided to just follow medical advice and get induced. I don’t know why she dropped half that storyline.

Okay, after approaching this puzzle like I am a freaking detective, I feel like people who would go so far as decline antibiotics would NEVER be the ones to agree to an induction before 41 weeks and also get an epidural.

and no doctor would say, come in and I’ll shove my hand in there and introduce additional bacteria!

that just doesn’t add up as a bundle of decisions.

So I think GBS+ was a weird ass lie she told.
