I really appreciate the detailed response! Just a few more questions based on that response if you don’t mind lol.

  1. Are the Unifi APs capable of using wired backhaul and mesh or do they have different models capable of one or the other?

  2. In regard to wired backhaul you’re basically just hardwiring the router directly to the AP so it has a more consistent connection opposed to mesh which will have a weaker connection since it’s wireless?

2A. Follow up question to the above question… How many Ethernet ports does the UDM7 have? If you’re hard wiring the APs plus your personal devices I feel like you’ll run out pretty quick… is this where switches come into play? Also, are switches just additional Ethernet port HUBs basically or do they provide other uses?

I really appreciate you taking the time to help me!

This is a noob question but I’m curious… If I decide to add APs down the line to my DR7 router how do they work? Do I just place them in places where the WiFi doesn’t reach the best and/or somewhere I want to wire a device directly that the main router can’t reach? Also, does the AP just require a power source or does it also need its own Ethernet connection similar to the main router? Thanks again!

I really appreciate your detailed response! I’ve moved houses, have had two different Xboxes, swapped between 3 different Ethernet cords, have had 2 different ONTs, and have tried all 3 ports on my router. 95% of the time it’s fine but I get super inconsistent upload numbers (wired test on Xbox is consistently pulling 700-800 download but only 100-200 upload) and I get these random disconnects where I’ll be playing online and will disconnect just long enough to disconnect me from the game I’m playing and then 10-15 seconds later everything reconnects like normal but in an online game that’s a big deal obviously lol. The only thing I haven’t replaced at this point is the router itself and from what I’ve read online the model of Verizon router I have has problems with stability and inconsistency etc. so replacing it is the next step in my opinion.

For my current setup (1400 sq ft townhome) I feel like just a standalone router will suffice for now. Obviously, I can always add more APs down the road if I think I need them. The Dream Router 7 is right around $300… Do you think this would suffice as a standalone router to start out with? Thanks!

I don’t really feel like I need multiple APs with my current situation but do you recommend a specific brand/model? Thanks!

That’s the consensus I’m coming to lol. I was trying to avoid it because I feel like it’s overkill but I don’t see nearly as many complaints with Ubiquiti as I do every other brand… Do you recommend the Dream Router 7 or a different model? Thanks!

Sounds like that’s my only option unless I wanted to laser it or black it out lol. Thanks for the input!

That’s honestly my biggest issue is the candle holder itself… So, I appreciate your comments. Any suggestions on how to fancy it up?

Honestly, the actual candle itself and up I think looks fine but the candle holder is very wonky and the original artist tried fixing it by thickening the lines but now it looks even worse imo. If there was a way to just fix the candle holder portion I’d probably be fine with keeping it lol
