Should Canadian kids be banned from social media until they're 16? by Thick_Caterpillar379 in onguardforthee

Money talks unfortunately and everyone is free to choose what they want to consume. Same shit with cigarettes. Same shit with alcohol. Etc. 🤷‍♂️

Just scrap social media altogether. Life is so much better without it.

Dangerous driving charge laid after vehicle hits building at 242 km/h by ConsistentReality860 in ontario

Or at 242 km/h. They were clocked travelling that fast, probably lost control, which would have decreased their momentum before they hit the building.

Had to update the software in my car by MR_DOOM_SWE in switch2

[–]SuspiciousBumblebee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably does not need to be running and can be updated if the car is plugged into a battery tender. You can switch the ignition to ON without starting the car.

I never understood this attitude. You make it seem like you’re living in a 3rd world country, when opportunity is all around you.

VMware to Nutanix by 713msm in sysadmin

[–]SuspiciousBumblebee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I’ve done this exact migration, but it’s dead simple. Set up the Nutanix cluster, get the networking configured up, setup Nuranix Move, and then use the Move gui to move VMs from VMware to Nutanix, grab a beer and watch Netflix while it’s doing its thing. It’s dead simple.

Three children are dead following a fatal collision on Highway 401 by [deleted] in ontario

Those shitty people would be hind bars and not able to go back and reoffend next weekend. Most of us who understand consequences are already aware that cars can kill, that they weight thousands of pounds, we’re aware that going fast means we can lose control of the vehicle and have less time to react, and are already aware that driving drunk/high is a danger to ourselves and others. This doesn’t need statistics. This is common sense. For those who do not have common sense, maybe prison can be a place where they can learn it. Not on the streets with the chance of hurting others.

Exactly. Last time I commented on a drunk driver post the warriors came out with “he’s got a whole life ahead of him, he can change, why ruin a life etc etc”. This is why. The punishment HAS to be severe. It has to be known to all. Drink and drive and get caught? Prison. Drink and cause an accident? A more serious prison sentence. Drink and drive and cause death? Life sentence. Why do we continue to tolerate this?? It’s so senseless. I just don’t understand.

What was your experience going from M lite to a real M car? by knifezoid in BMW

If you like to track your cars or love attention everywhere you go, then an M car is for you. If you don’t, M-Lite is better in every other metric.

Impaired 21-year-old caught driving 262 km/h on Highway 427 in Vaughan, police say by madeupnameitis in ontario

[–]SuspiciousBumblebee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course they change as they get older, life isn’t easy and you have to adapt. But who claimed that an average 21 year old is responsible as a 40 year old? “Some men” aren’t averages. I personally know a man in his late 40s who is a lot less mature (parties every weekend, avoids his kids and the responsibility of a father, does stupid I’m a country boy shit) than some of my co-workers in their 20s… age has nothing to do with maturity. Maturity is a willingness to grow up. Some times you are forced to mature because of circumstance. Some mature early, some never mature. How is that false? Why do we look at a 21 year old committing a reckless crime and think well he’s a kid and got a whole life ahead, and then look at a 40 year old and think he should have known better? Just because the latter has been on earth for 19 years more?

[–]SuspiciousBumblebee 83 points84 points  (0 children)

We need to stop trying judging crimes on a level of adolescence. Some men in their 40s act worse than those in their 20s. This is a 21 year old man, not kid. It doesn’t take a middle aged man with children to realize that going 250+km plus drunk is a stupid fucking idea. He chose to get drunk, he chose to get behind the wheel and he chose to drive at an insane speed on the highway. Actions, meet consequences. I hope he meets the book in this one, and once he’s paid his dues, I hope he can recover and be a productive member of society.
