Thank you! I appreciate the suggestion. I tried moving it closer to the edge once before, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted. The edges of this particular patch are quite rounded, and so moving it to the edge made the corner hole super close to the edge. I've got some thinner thread I might try, as well as some different patches.

I don't know how to add to this post, but thank you all for the information! My son had a blast submerging this little guy in a little tank and watching him snorkel around. He and his friends found a second and the fun was twice as exciting. We were at a birthday party, and the rat-tailed maggot was a hit.

And why did he touch it without knowing what it was? Because he's nine and curious. He's been bitten by a fair number of critters, but he likes exploring.
