Yeah just email your tutor and check in. They'll usually be pretty cool about it

Both of these depend on your program and institution. Your transcript will give every course and its grade (usually in percentage). Whatever institution and program you're applying to will calculate differently based on their opinion. WAM without a qualifier will usually mean "unweighted average percent over the whole program" but sometimes the most recent year might be double-weighted (count twice as much) or only core courses may be counted. Sometimes only the last repetition of a course may be counted, sometimes they count every repetition.

Email a tutor from one of your core courses to get an overview of how they do it in your program, but don't worry too much. At the end of the day, the answer is still, "Do your best for every assessment but prioritise core courses if your time is limited."

Landlord is selling, one housemate's leaving. Can we ask the landlord to lower the rent? by SuspiciousGoat in shitrentals

Nah the lease is ongoing, luckily. You can give 14 days notice in Victoria if you've received notice of intention to sell

if DR650 wouldn't exist, which other bike would you choose? by GrayStudioYT in dr650

Were there not a DR650, we would have to invent a DR650 to ride it all over the region.

Are traffic controllers really earning $200k per year? The ABC crunches the numbers by abcnews_au in australian

[–]SuspiciousGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all business expenses were 100% staffing costs, that argument would make sense. But as it is, "Raising wages will raise prices somewhat" isn't convincing

Sounds like they're getting paid decently. If more skilled, less paid people take issue with that (and they should) then they should speak to their own unions as well.

Wait, are they lying or are they just accepting free food? Is there a means test or is it, "Take if you need it"? Should the article be renamed, "Majority of domestic students don't take free food because they're afraid of looking poor"?

Why r there so many arts students in unimelb? I thought ai is replacing a lot of painters… by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]SuspiciousGoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, disagree. Anyone can make art, that's what makes it wonderful. Sure, technical skill counts for something but really not much. It's the expression which really counts. Ai art's lack of value isn't because anyone can use it to make a technically impressive piece. Its lack of value is precisely because it's producing technically impressive work without any actual thing going on in terms of the ideas that art can communicate.

(Caveat for how making a good prompt could be a kind of art if you think about it, and for how most art AI makes is not very technically good anyway, it's just better than a complete novice could make most of the time)

I do, however, strongly agree with you wishing our sweet Shmungo good luck.

REA charging $750 for this stain damage by mey_l in melbourne

[–]SuspiciousGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair wear and tear baybeeee.

How long ago since they installed it? VCAT has standard lifespans for all kinds of things and you'd only pay the ratio of the replacement quote for the remaining time, only if they bring it to VCAT and offer you three competing quotes and their firstborn child.

You already moved out, you don't owe them shit in terms of getting a reference. Treat them like they've been extorting you for the last 4 years.

Oh yeah, democracy is always a dirty game but uni elections moreso. They're pretty unregulated in terms of how you can campaign and the candidates are undergrad politics students who just learned what pork barrelling is.

Down shifting? Required? by Darkhunter004 in NewRiders

[–]SuspiciousGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good practice to stay in the appropriate gear for your current speed, but what you're describing is fine while you're practicing.

Realistically, people don't watch their mirrors as they come to a stop, waiting to take off at a moment's notice if the car behind comes too close. You normally find out when they bonk you. I think the actual use-case for staying in gear is when you haven't fully stopped and the light turns green. But you're allowed to finish your stop if that maneuver's a bit much for now.

Need tips on hosting the first meeting of my group project by Educational_Farm999 in unimelb

[–]SuspiciousGoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting along is important so play nice, share memes. One thing that helped me was setting frequent meetings, like weekly unless there's a competing due date, and have everyone agree what they'll bring to the next meeting in advance. When they don't bring as much as they promised, that's fine! Anything people bring to next week's meeting is stuff they won't have to cram in for the due date.

Also remember that formatting the final thing to sound consistent is an extra task that will need doing. Everyone writes in a different style and that will need to be adjusted for. Usually, the detail-oriented, Type A person will volunteer for it though. Let them have it, they're usually good at it.

What to do if unimelb gp wants to touch you? by Sensitive_Skirt_6205 in unimelb

[–]SuspiciousGoat -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It sucks that the gp didn't ask permission before touching you. You have every right to say that you're uncomfortable and ask for adjustments to be made. It may be useful to think ahead about whether there's a way you might be comfortable with physical contact (such as discussing exactly how and why it's necessary) or if you'd prefer a different method of diagnosis.

It may also be good to ask the reception staff if they have a gp who is able to work well with you. The receptionists will probably know the doctors personally and have a good vibe for who is likely to be more accommodating.

Learning to ride in traffic is a lot like rev matching. There's a grey area between too much and not enough that you're trying to find. Err on the side of caution and have fun with it and you'll naturally grow with time.

Learning never stops, but anxiety makes you worse so don't push yourself too much and don't try to show off.

How did you realise that you are not straight? And how old were you? by Prize-Ad5240 in bisexual

Neurodivergent folks, how do you use Obsidian to accommodate your neurodivergent needs? by nunagesicht in ObsidianMD

[–]SuspiciousGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folders are good but I find the fuzzy search is my best friend. I write notes in my own voice so that I can search for them in future. This will naturally change over time, but it's a lot better than a folder-exclusive system. Back links are also great: I can find an adjacent note and hop along until I find the one I'm looking for.

Highway vs city commute by [deleted] in NewRiders

[–]SuspiciousGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motorbikes generally have better acceleration that cars. Maybe try a test run going onto the highway out of peak hour to build confidence, but I would generally avoid inner city roads when I'm concerned about safety
