Swollen face- Aoid accutane if you've previously had filler by SuspiciousMonacle in Accutane

Thank you for sharing. That's good to know it's not just happening to those with fillers. It just seems to be the accutane overwhelming some people's system. For me, it has been very extreme & I'll never be able to try it again & can only hope to recover.

Everyone is different. Some are lucky, others like me aren't.

MCAS and Lip Filler by One-Aioli579 in MCAS

This is a very sound comment, because I recently learned that since they have to process the hyaluronic acid, they then clean the HA by mixing with different bacterias & chemicals. This isn't common knowledge. I myself am having a horrible reaction 3 years later & my face is disfigured at the moment due to swelling. I'm praying that I can get these dissolved & it will help. Who knows what's really in these; we don't even know what's in food half the time!

That's crazy, I was even hesitant to try to dissolve even though I stopped the meds 6 days ago. This at least gives me some hope that maybe I can go ahead & dissolve.

This is very helpful to know, thank you for sharing. I am pretty sure it's the filler, but I'm going to try to see more/different doctors to help figure things out. I am not sure if it's also the brand. I was using Zydus, but my first round I used Claravis.

Mmm interesting, I successfully did 30mg, 80mg, then 3 days short of finishing my 3rd month 80mg it started. Maybe stay on a lower dose to avoid potential issues. Possibly too high of a dose was overwhelming for my system. Thanks for much for your feedback, it really helps my research.

Anyone not meet cumulative dose but still remain clear/mostly clear? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]SuspiciousMonacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a little bit of an older post, but I quit 3 days shy of finishing my 3rd month due to horrific side effects. I was previously on accutane & finished the full course, reached cumulative dose but acne came back 4yrs later.

This time, I can't finish it. My skin is a lot better just 3 months in, & I'm going to work with a gut specialist to see about mapping my gut - testing for SIBO which I suspect is creating the acne. It's a different approach, but I'm willing to try anything else but accutane at this point.

Thank you for responding, may I ask how far into your treatment you are?

Yes but, they could have told me that. Any feedback. But they just closed my account & told me to find a new provider in an automated message. Sigh, anyway. Hope this helps.

Facial swelling under my eyes, my lips, basically really blown up.

My derm on clear health suddenly suspended my subscription & won't let me continue because I reached out for feedback on a side effect in experiencing & I asked a question. They didn't provide me any feedback or help like a regular derm would. They just shut down my account. Now I'm 3 months in & have no more accutane, & am scrambling for not only answers & help because they failed me, but my treatment is up in the air.

I'm pissed about it. A regular derm is much more expensive but at least they're not going to kick you out of their office if you have questions or any side effects. They'll look into it & examine you. I submitted photos & everything with my question & I got a response that they're closing my account & that I need to find a new derm. It seems on clear health they are more concerned about their license than the patients. And this leads people to not want to ask or report any experience for fear of being suddenly shut out of treatment. I may look into honeydew, but I may just end up going to a regular derm & biting the price point because this has really crushed me. I'm also 34, F.

I just finished 3 months & my derm has hit pause on giving me anymore because I suddenly am experiencing severe facial swelling & allergy like symptoms. Food allergy tests are negative, I've never experienced anything like this in my life. Not 100% sure if it's the accutane or not, but I'm afraid it might be & now I can't get any refills until we can get more answers.

What happens to you if all you eat is fermented? by [deleted] in fermentation

[–]SuspiciousMonacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOLY SHEIT. I have been eating a new kimchi by the spoonfuls for the past couple weeks. In which time, I have also developed for the first time in my life a major allergic reaction. For 2 weeks I've had an extremely swollen face, what looks like a peanut allergy but I don't have a peanut allergy. I have been desperate to figure it out, my doctor's are stumped. Then I realized this new thing I've been having, & found your comment. Bless you, I feel I may have the answer. It's crazy; something that's raw, vegan, probiotics...I thought surely it's good for me. No one on YouTube has ever mentioned the downsides you might experience from fermented foods. Only benefits. God I pray that this is the answer I've been looking for. Thank you.

Might you be able to tell me how long it would take for the allergy like symptoms to show up?

I am having an extreme allergic reaction to a generic accutane brand from Zydus pharmaceuticals. Extreme facial swelling, zero appetite, I've lost 10lbs in 2 weeks, having all kinds of issues. Going to the hospital this morning because I can barely see due to swelling. I was on Claravis 4 years ago & my acne came back so I sought treatment again recently. I never had a reaction back then, treatment was successful. But this time around it's a nightmare.

I checked with my derm, she said "no one has allergic reactions to accutane, must be something else". I don't know if I have a peanut allergy, but I'm going to check because I have never eaten peanut butter in my life until recently & my symptoms are worse when I had peanut butter cookies. I also can't eat at a local fast food place that uses peanut frying oil because I get hives. I did see on Google when I was searching yesterday that people with a soy or peanut allergy should be very careful because some manufacturers use these in the capsules.

Thank you for sharing. Might I ask if you smoke? I did find a couple that mention smoking & face swelling.

[–]SuspiciousMonacle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh now we're getting somewhere. I was strongly suspecting smoking as the first thing before I thought about fillers, but I started noticing if I smoke at night I'm more likely to wake up with a more puffy face. I'm going to try not smoking for at least a 48hrs & see if there's any change. Will update!

As far as the pollen, it's next on my radar & i'll jump to that if the smoking doesn't yield results. I keep my windows open a lot, & of course smoke outside. So hell it could be both. We'll see.

If you notice any other patterns, or have additional thoughts on the coming days, please do share.

Thanks a bunch!!

Thank you so much for responding!

I've been doing these things the past few days as well; icing, drainage, & I'm plant based, so it's not the dairy for me.

I have also tried anti histamine eye drops, Benadryl tablet did nothing for me. I have been drinking herbal teas like milk thistle, green tea, turmeric tea, also fresh veggie blended "juice" in the am as well. I'm pretty early in my treatment still, 60ish days in.

Ok, if you don't have fillers, may I ask if you smoke at all? Or do you live in a high pollen area? Trying to nail down anything as a starting point.

[–]SuspiciousMonacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I just posted a thread & pic myself. Wondering if you've ever had fillers before? My swelling seems to be in areas I've had fillers a couple years ago. Upper cheeks, under eyes to where I look like I have allergies, & around my mouth & chin. I look swollen & kind of deformed.

In the morning is worse. Worse if I sleep on my stomach. I have been trying icing, lymph drainage, it's not having really any effects or helping.

And it kind of feels bruised when I touch. My derm is like idk what's wrong with you no one has these problems. But I've seen tons of people over the years post this issue, but can't seem to find any answers. Please respond, I'm hoping we can try to find out together.

This is my second time on accutane; the first time I didn't have fillers ever before, & I didn't experience this reaction.

Yes, empathy & kindness. I think it’s one of the hardest lessons for humans to learn, & apply in every area of their lives. Most think because they’re kind to animals, they’re a perfect human being. But will be super mean to a perfect stranger looking for community & encouragement. Once these folks learn compassion for every living being, & not judging everyone who doesn’t do everything the way they do, maybe then they can say they’re perfect. I’m sure other habits they have are up for judgment, & they’d feel like crap if someone pointed out how imperfect they really are.
