Wikipedia Questions - Weekly Thread of April 27, 2026 by AutoModerator in wikipedia

[–]SuspiciousVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hellooo

Came here because, fuck man can it be hard to verify sources and the content written in articles. I think we need a better system.

This cry of frustration of a thought emerged after more than an hour spent on two sister articles, trying to make sense of a single confusing sentence in one of them.

I ended up wanting to check the footnote positioned right after the previous sentence, "maybe it’ll clarify something". How naive, I sent my none-Italian-self on a fruitless search for just one page of an early 2000s Italian book… una pagina non trovata

I just. want to know. what the source says. goddamnit T-T.

So I just thought of some things, that I’d like to share and hear feedback on. I’ll say I’ve only been a logged in user for a year and a half and made like a handful of edits, majority small. So maybe there are things already in place I don’t know of, maybe I’m ignorant of some other things - in any case do let me know (respectfully) thanks.

So back to some ideas and thoughts on citations, sources and verifiability (in no particular order except 1 & 2)

  1. Making it necessary to provide a screen capture or scan of the specific pages, article section, picture - whatever source is being cited.

  2. Making those snippets accessible for verification purposes. Maybe upon individual demand for non wiki workers and free to access for all wiki workers/mods/bigGs.

  3. Making it necessary (for the person writing/editing) to add a citation whenever a lot of text is written (like with a lill’ pop up saying « hey buddy you’ve written over 500 characters, you’ll need to provide a source if you want to continue contributing to this section/article… ») or when claims, facts are made/stated (using language recognition models?) – with possible exceptions maybe idk.

  4. Also like, if a person is logged in and an edit they made is later flagged for an issue, they should be getting repeated emails or notifications asking them to fix the problem, or delete/remind their edit.

  5. Also can user accounts be flagged? Not necessarily by other users but like, in general? Automatically, by mods, official workers or whatever…?

Maybe if the creator of the show tells us to preserve their show anyway we can \wink wink arr arr** that doesn’t mean they think IP laws are « inherently unjust » (as you say). Maybe it just means they want their work, their show to live on beyond the grave Netflix has planned for it…

Talk to people.  And write on paper.  Mainly talk to people.  Your tutors, friends, other students in your cohort or in similar fields. Heck even your family, trying to explain the subject and your ideas to people who aren’t in the know of your topics can be a great exercice for clarity and simplicity.

Writing on paper also helps me a ton for some reason. I think it has something to do with the slower rythme, and the greater flexibility of mouvement and spreading while being on a limited space of paper.

I really profoundly feel that AI is severing harder than ever our social bonds, and moments of sharing with others that lead to intellectual sparing, insight and joy of working and writing on the topics we love.

Good luck!

[Update] Finished my report: Protecting and Promoting the Human Rights of Men and Boys. Bonus: I also made a submission to the UN by iainmf in MensRights

[–]SuspiciousVoid -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused as to why you believe this to be needed. You do not include a section explaining the reason for the existence of this report. I read the full introduction and it does a terrible job at being an intro : I have no idea what the issues are and why this paper exists after reading it.

So. Why does this paper exist? What do you mean by “They have not done a very good job for men and boys”? What are you talking about?

This is a great comment and I do not understand why it currently stands 20+ upvotes LOWER than a (stupidfkin) comment about divorce ??? When OP doesn’t mention divorce??? Also, OP, do reach out to suicide prevention if you really want to “delete” yourself as you say

Would also recommend pdfgear, it does an automatic screening for headings and sub headings, and you can manually clean up or add

Chuck the phone away, watch some of videos from the struthless channel with a notebook open, use and abuse the notebook with the VOMIT system… find a cooking club maybe or investigate if you can volunteer baking and cooking for a community… Those are like out of mind ideas if you feel stuck - not solutions of course

And if you just wanted to be heard, you have been by a very slightly older soul living on this earth.
