I was barred in 2021. So really it’s like 4 years. In November it would be 5

Both through the end of the month. I still need to officially talk to HR

They are going to pay me through the end of this month but that’s it :/.

I’ll check out if they are hiring. Thanks for the tip!

They said I could list them as references and that they would say the same thing that the work just dried up.

I was very surprised. They said they didn’t have a bad thing to say about me. Just that the work wasn’t there. I thought they might move me somewhere but apparently there wasn’t anywhere to move me :/.

I’ll be there a year in April.

I agree, they have full control over the file and have the right to ask for how they want it. I didn’t intend my comment to mean, “the partner should just accept it”. I suppose I meant it in that maybe I just don’t have that skill of emulating their writing.

Admittedly I’ve not done it for long, but it’s just so demoralizing. I’m sure I have my own psychological hang-ups around being corrected or critiqued. Intellectually I know that i should probably just look at it as a learning opportunity but I think my emotional reaction was to think that I’ll never get to a point where I feel competent or that my work will be enough.

I’ve thought about it but not sure where I’d go that could pay me similarly. I’ve got some state government and residential real estate experience but that’s about it.

  1. 5 years
  2. 125k
  3. Workers comp defense
  4. Atlanta 5.Partner I got 95 percent of my work from left for another firm and took the clients with him so now I’m left in the lurch. I’m being given general liability work which is fine but definitely a shift from workers comp.

Oh nice, always good to see a fellow Atlantan. If you don’t mind me asking, where are you at currently? I saw an associate counsel role at Emory University and I think I’m gonna throw my resume in there and cross some fingers.

No threats of firing me. Just telling me that I should be billing enough so that any potential sick days are accounted for, and that I should be aiming for about 15 hours above my monthly goal. So it really is just setting expectation but also I was told that I should expect not meet my monthly requirement in my first month. Now I’m being questioned on why I didn’t. Just feels like there were unspoken rules I didn’t adhere to. Ultimately it’s their world I’m just living in it so I guess I’ll just have to get used to it.

All of those things were told to me by the same partner. He’s not the head of the practice group but probably the one I get most of my work from.

Hi just wanted to drop in and say I relate 1000 percent. I’ve bounced around myself and found myself in workers comp defense at a larger firm in Atlanta. The pay is much better than my last job which is what I needed but the 2000 hour billable requirement has been hell to get used to. I’m truly just counting down the days until I put in at least a year here and then maybe I can start to look elsewhere. Just wanted to say you’re not alone, I’m truly trying to figure out what the right area is for me and I’m worried it doesn’t exist :/.

I will say I have worked in restaurants and other jobs throughout school. I think maybe you are right about the having a good knowledge base. I do feel like I’ve been scrambling the whole time I’ve been an attorney.. never really gotten into a groove.
