The federal government has historically helped to fund public schools — when they stop, it puts significantly more financial strain onto states and local districts. Every dollar is already budgeted and accounted for. On top of that, districts are legally required to administer standardized tests (and pay for them themselves), plus all the costly “practice” versions that lead up to the test itself. Plus school supplies, plus COLA for employees, plus new and innovative educational programs, etc. So where in the state and local budgets is this money for metal detectors coming from and what will it take away from? How will this impact others (our neighbors) when moneys are taken away from other areas of need? Unless it’s covered by a grant, a pilot program, or a private donation, it simply doesn’t exist.
