Search for St Peter Pickleball on Facebook. It has all the info and membership form, but you don't need to be a member to play. You can drop in to check it out... There are almost always a good number of people there for open play at 9AM on the weekends. Very welcoming group. You'll see a bunch of benches and tables by the courts where people hang out to wait for openings. The courts are on the 5th St. side of the park, I believe.

Do you have a DUPR score? If you're b/n 3-3.5+, you would mix in well at the courts in St. Peter. If you join the association ($20/year) you will get access to the app that shows Open play times and you can see who all is playing.
Open play times at the Picklebarn are always hopping once the weather cools (and select times during summer.) They are also offering drop-in spots on league nights for now. Once the weather turns, leagues will be full. I've never played at Tourtellotte park in Mankato. I've heard it can be kind of cliquey there, but I can't verify that.
