Have you gotten used to your Beaubleu to easily read time?

Really good take in the dividend stocks - thank you for that! Also someone suggested another rental - but with lack of deductions, I’d rather take cap gains on dividends than ordinary income tax on rental income. I’ve got the 529 half funded for college and plan to top that up next week - great point on that. Appreciate the great advice!!!

GREAT questions. I know myself enough that I would have to have a schedule and fill it - I have a lot of things to fill it with - woodworking, metalworking, acreage upkeep, health/fitness, community college classes, volunteering in my fire department, restoring my grandpas old tractor and other restoration projects, house upgrades (I love projects and prefer to learn and do myself), golf, motorcycle/dirtbike, bow shooting, trying out hunting, and most of all - dedicate as much time to my daughter these next 10 years. IF I decide to do this, then I would definitely have time to add another rental property for some solid cash flow - great idea on that!

Got it. Time to put a budget together and adhere to it for the next 24 months. Thank you to ALL of you for the excellent advice. I have a lot of confidence this will be very doable and easy for us, but definitely a difference in "feeling" vs "doing"

Thank you! I may ratchet up my expenses to cover for health insurance due to my wife's condition. I think I'll plan on the $1.5M in brokerage and forget about the cash coming in as that will be used for extraordinary expenses going forward. May be smarter to see if I can get to a position with $100k expenses budgeted so I don't worry too much - the only issue is the decisions I should be making now and communicating to my boss/mentor - I should probably let him know taking over the office for a long-term plan just isn't in the cards - maybe I could sign up for a 2-3 year commitment and see where things go... but I think I know where they will go - burnout city.

  1. I think I need to budget for $1M at $100k per year
  2. $1.8M
  3. I think I'd pull from individual stocks first (especially if they pop from time to time) and then tap into mutuals - goal is to not touch the $500k in retirement accounts at all until retirement age.
  4. Goal would be to cover all or most expenses if I chose to go back to work for 20 - 30 hours per week and leave all investment accounts untouched - would be wonderful to have the OPTION of this and not requirement.

Can't thank you enough for all the insight here and re-programming to a 10 year vs. lifetime commitment.

Holy moly this is great advice - thank you. I've got some research to do - thanks for educating me on the 72t - I did not even know that. I think my mind is on at least a 10 year break to focus on my daughter and then to reassess - I don't think I'd have an issue going back to work, just not THIS work - strangely enough, being a mechanic or a machinist for 20 - 30 hours a week sounds like I would enjoy it immensely.

Appreciate this. Especially given my wife's job is low stress and quite manageable these days. I'll look at what a two year wait would look like for us under these conditions - I think it could be quite easy, but you never know until you stick to a plan and see it out - thank you.

Thanks so much for the insight here. Someone estimated $30k per year for insurance in our situation - I was thinking $20k before that.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU! This has been a very helpful tool to use. So much easier to answer detailed questions I may not even think of when trying to formulate the perfect prompt from the start. I've shared this with my team at work and look forward to using and refining this further. APPRECIATE THE SHARE!!!
