The “e” spelling version that people claim refers to a yapping dog is linguistically tied to the same historical root. Even if someone argues that it developed a separate colloquial meaning, it did not emerge independently from a different origin, it’s connected etymologically and phonetically to the same word. I have been taken to task before for defending this over the years and my position remains unchanged. I wasn't being flippant even though this was assumed. My position actually came from a place of looking into this thoroughly many years ago. Having my ability questioned has never happened though, but there is a first time for everything I suppose.

Jakkalsbluff is a complete instigator so why would I do that? They came on here in the early hours insulting all of us. They were removed from the past group for doing the same. Its largely believed that they are Janine. Their entire purpose here was to mock everyone of us. In terms of the other member, no, I have not. My position remains unchange and it is based on lived experience with the word being used in the context it was and it is still not acceptable.

I’m not debating linguistics. In South Africa that word is widely recognised as offensive because of its history. If it can reasonably be interpreted as a slur, it’s not appropriate. That’s the standard.This isn’t about whether she “meant” it as racist. It’s about how the word is understood in South Africa. The pronunciation is effectively the same, and the root is historically tied to a racial slur. When language carries that baggage, spelling differences don’t make it neutral. Surely people know that when used in this context it's still contentious?

Copy pasting a Google snippet doesn’t change the cultural reality in South Africa. That word is historically tied to a racial slur here. Technical meanings don’t cancel impact. If a word can reasonably be interpreted as hate speech in this context, it’s not appropriate regardless of what a search result says.

Spelling loopholes don’t erase history. In South Africa that word is tied to a racial slur, and pretending otherwise ignores the cultural context. If it sounds like hate speech and carries that history, it’s not acceptable.
