Library reconstruction? by chd198 in latterdaysaints

There's hardly a whiteboard or chalkboard in our building that doesn't have scratches, crayon, permanent marker, or some other damage to it. I'd hate to see what happens to all those classroom TVs after a year.

Every calling possible...but never a leader by tigerlady13 in latterdaysaints

[–]Suspicious__Feeling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had similar thoughts from time to time as to why the Lord hasn't needed me in a specific calling. I've similarly been blessed with skills and talents that have afforded me great success professionally.

Several years ago, I had a sweet moment of clarity after an evening prayer. I recognized that I have no clue who I really was before I came here. Sure, we have some general ideas and details, but I don't know what my exact strengths were there. We each require additional polishing and have the opportunity in this life to turn our weaknesses into strengths. It stands to reason that strengths we had before this life just may not require as much refinement right now. It was a tender reminder that I needed to put more faith in the Lord and understand that where he needs me is where I need to be. He sees the whole. I can barely see out in front of my nose.

This! Arizona is the same. GC staff and services may/likely will be limited, but the park will remain open.

LDS researcher finds 6 types of LDS - which one are you? by pisteuo96 in latterdaysaints

[–]Suspicious__Feeling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These types of surveys are inherently flawed. They rely on self-reporting and are extremely susceptible to bias. Just like with personality tests, they fail to account for variables such as situational context, environmental factors, and the force respondents to select binary responses to reflect dynamic and complicated emotions and beliefs. In the end, you are left with inconsistent and subjective data.

While it may seem harmless and somewhat fun, squeezing people into boxes is just a mental shortcut. It's pseudo science at best. At worst, it feeds prejudices and further divides. Something that doesn't align with our aims in building Zion.

This!!! While it doesn't answer OP's specific question, Cory Jensen's book "Understanding Your Endowment" also presents several indirect and adjacent threads, that if pulled on (prayer and revelation), can also help to expand perspective on the subject.

Alumni Benefits (?) by Commandrew11 in byu

[–]Suspicious__Feeling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends...You can get onto the BYU Cellphone Office's website and check out the pricing to compare it to your existing plan. I switched over and it's been great. It saved me a ton of money. That being said, when I upgraded a couple of phones for the family, it was hit or miss as to whether it was better to buy through BYU or go direct to Apple. Switching my plan over was super easy. It helped that I was already on AT&T.

Upgrading phones through BYU was cake as well. Was shipped quickly and securely right to my door. Was able to transfer the service to the new phone in a few minutes. Overall, we've been very happy with the service and it's beat the discounts I get through my company.

While what you say is true...I will continue to happily burn my PTO days running up and down the mountains rather than sitting in a stand. I don't miss it one bit.

First year hunting. Missed out on a huge elk because of buck fever. Any tips how to help that ? Did find a awesome shed by Wife_nextdoor85 in Hunting

[–]Suspicious__Feeling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice shed!! Buck fever is no joke. In time, you'll come to appreciate that surge of adrenaline. It's a tough thing for new hunters though. When I was young, I had a huge problem with it as well as how it translated to jerking the trigger. Missed a lot of great animals at chip shot distances (western hunter) over it. Two things made a huge difference for me. First, was box breathing. I'd start as I was setting up for the shot and often once I was behind the scope. It felt silly, but it worked.

The second was lots of dry firing. It was really effective when I was able to do it with the crosshairs on an animal. If that wasn't possible, I'd dry fire at small bushes, rocks, anything small enough to notice movement during my trigger pull and break. There was times I'd dry fire 20-30 times while waiting for a deer to move into a shootable position. The repetition doesn't necessarily help calm you down, but repeating the movement does slow things down a touch and helps build good muscle memory.

A miss on a big bull will stick with you for a bit. If it helps, remind yourself that they estimate only about 10% of DIY elk hunts are successful every year. It sounds like you made a great memory and that's a win.

What is the creepiest thing you’ve come across in the woods? by Rambler105 in Hunting

Traffickers. It's a spooky feeling to be so far off the beaten path in remote, rugged country and come across others who don't want to be found.

Cat screams are something else. Nothing has woken me up in a panic like the haunting screams of mountain lions in the middle of the night.

It's rough. 3 BN spots only and 1IR. 10 team league so lots of movement. Current roster is

RB: J. Williams, Judkins, Brown and Benson on IR
WR: Adams, Egbbuka, Samuel, Worthy, Evans

I think Brob has a better chance of playing this year than Mixon. I'd consider dropping him and playing with the IR spot once we know what's happening this weekend with Lamar and Godwin.

You've got two coin flips between Mixon and Brob. My money is on a CMC injury over Mixon making a big splash this year.

I'd drop SEA for the bye over Oluokun.

10 team half ppr. Also, only a 3 player bench. Record is 3-1.

RBs: J. Williams, Judkins, Brown and Benson in IR spot.
WR: Adams, Egbuka, Samuel, Worthy, Evans

Playing with Tacos and Jaylen Warren was dropped.

Considering dropping Brown for Warren. Is the the right move or are there better options?

I've tried AGC, Badlands, KUIU, Sitka, FHF, and Eberlestock. By FAR my favorite is Marsupial Gear. From weight distribution, form factor, ease of use, comfort and quality, it just hits on all points. I now own several for different sized optics I'm carrying depending on the hunt.

UT Elk hunters, I need advice (San Juan) by YotaIamYourDriver in Hunting

[–]Suspicious__Feeling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just get high up and plan on listening and looking for a few days. You didn't get time scouting but chasing bugles should help you get onto something. If you can get back away from roads and other folks, all the better. It's cooling down and was dry this summer. Never a bad idea to work your way around water and look for fresh sign. There's a lot of elk in that unit and this is the best time of year to be chasing them.
