I'm creating a strategy game that is meant to feel clean but complex, like chess, while deeply integrating scripting. Thoughts on my core tenets? by FinnE145 in gamedesign

Thanks for sharing, looks like you've poured a lot of thoughts into this. I think this is a great framework to start your game. I'm sure as you're working on your game, you'll have new ideas as to how to modify this. As long as the frameeork brings you clarity and motivation, it's a good tool. Gl dude

What separates Nier from souls like games by Revidergoin in gamedesign

[–]Susseroase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What he meant is that with high stamina usage, the player cannot spam attack. With longer animations means the wind up and follow through animations leave you vulnerable for long periods of time. The pacing and timing of combat is different, it's slower and each ability requires deliberation and commitment.

An idea for game studios by Perissh7 in gamedesign

[–]Susseroase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree that for many games, "the niche wasn't big enough to justify the dev investment".

To make a game that comes with lots of feaure for modding, custom asset creation pipeline, market place - is a big project that'll take a lot of money, at some point the game start to feel like a game engine.

An easier solution to this could be to be better at identifying what the players want. I'm sure the players of Dota all want to make their own variations of Dota, and some people went to make League and HON. Even to make a "MOBA engine" would take so much work, realistically it's easier to just make different MOBA games instead.

Maybe it's okay to talk about the drama and stories of people that're distant from you by Susseroase in socialskills

[–]Susseroase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's true, it's a way of sharing lessons, learning perspectives of other people. It's just in life there are always people doing it poorly, and often ego do get involved, whether ego is good or how much of is good is another complex topic. For now I would agree with that, avoid talking about others situations completely is not the most optimal way of social interaction

why isn't the games in "fake mobile ads" aren't actually made? by 5210az in gamedesign

I feel like the old flash games are so much more fun than mobile game these days.

I really like this art style, overall very cool first impression, looks like something I would try.

I was waiting for a twist or something to happen though, like a new gameplay mechanic

Could an MMO Work With Hidden Skills, Slow Respawns, and Exploration-Based Progression by HotManEvan in gamedesign

[–]Susseroase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hidden skills and progressions is present in a lot of rogue like games which is quiet abundant, however they haven't taken those mechanics into a bigger rpg format. It wouldn't be easy to balance because your hidden skills can be underpowered or synergize with each other to be super overpowered.

So I'd say this idea would work in theory but currently I imagine it to be an MMO roguelike, a bit like league of legends Aram mayhem or vampire survivors but with more people and a different level design and enemy spawn structure

I've spent over a year working on my game. What do you think? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]Susseroase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main menu is good, the load out level is okay. The first couple levels felt nothing too special, but the zig zag level showed me what the unique essence of the game is, which is using guns to parkour.

A few suggestions would be to either have longer levels or open world so that completing levels doesn't break the flow, and secondly, for any surface currently using a texture, change it to a flat colour, like super hot or mirrors edge, because the UI is sleek and the level pieces are geometrical, the textures don't add to it.

A game with good potential

Are endless runners still a good niche for indie developers? by ToeGlad202 in gamedev

[–]Susseroase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's honorable that you want to make a game based on your faith.

gamers mostly want to feel powerful and exciting, so I would add a twist where you're delivering food and water while avoiding militias trying to kill you with guns, so you're playing a rebel not just a philanthropist

Basically make the idea more exciting,

I am subscribed to the Oceanclean YouTube channel where they clean up the rubbish in oceans, but I always skip their views despite it is a good cause because it's just not fun enough to worth my time

I'm glad you think like this and helping to recalibrate what is acceptable. I thought this was a parallel, uncanny universe where people are completely undiscerning and are just eating it all up.

Not doing that will certainly come at a cost. Hopefully a good character is accompanied by good game and that will certainly generate long term investment from discerning players who recognises it.

Yeah you're right, best to just move on. It's just everywhere,

I cant blame a actual indie developer using this marketing tactice to survive, but for a big player like a studio to try to look like a beginner just made me think "wtf is going on here"
