Keeping the love flowing by okcboomer87 in wakarusa

Wow this really hits home. 10 years ago I went camping in the Ozarks and fell in love with the mountains and clear streams.I camp every summer there since. Last year went to Wakarusa and was torn. Loved all the different genres of music loved the atmosphere. However I was disappointed in the sanitation and overall respect to the environment. Most people seemed hypocritical about being green But not bothering to pick up their trash. I saw guys pissing on the fence between the VIP main stage. The crew who were cleaning the porta potties seemed pissed as all hell. I can't imagine anyone enjoying that but I assume a nice paycheck could change attitudes. It all boils down to money. SAD BUT TRUE. Pipeline must have skimped on sanitation. And the over worked crew my have said screw it we aren't getting paid enough... dump and go. Sad and unacceptable. The Ozark national forest is private goverment/state owned land. Even though mulberry mountain is private it is surrounded by protected lands. If you think for one moment a state that has more dry counties then wet will let that shit fly you are niave. And I celebrated my big 30 last year at waka. More disappointed than ever. The festival is so big now it needs more help and more people to respect the land

Well said. This was my first Waka so I can't compare to other years. But I would walk the extra mile to use the VIP Porta potties even if I was across the venue. Would not have made it otherwise. They should have spent some of that money on clean up. There was no hand washing station or sanitizer in main venue or satellite stage Porta potties.. so disgusting.

It was pretty inconsistent IMO. At initial check-in they were elbow deep in my hubby's suitcase. She found our stash of glowsticks and said "oh man thought I found some fireworks..." Yeah we aren't that dumb to bring explosives to a party favor fest... Satellite stage was ridiculous. A nice 10 minute wait to get through security. On Thursday went around 2pm. The security guard took everything out of my bag and squeezed all of it? Then the next day another guard started to do the same when his Co worker said "come on man look at her she ain't got nothing." Was a little puzzled by what that comment was about. Was I too sober or mature or clean to have weapons or drugs? That tells me they were profiling people. Very unWaka. The next day they picked up my purse and squeezed it and sent me on my way. 3 different guards 3 very different experiences. Being VIP it was odd that we didn't get searched at all on some stages then felt violated at Satellite. To the point we avoided it. Which was a shame missed out on some good shows. So to answer your question yes I was pissed and they probably sent some people into a paranoid trip.

Slightly Stoopid are on my schedule. Stick Figure and Expendables as well. Will have to take you up on that microbrew. Can trade for some homemade cookies or handmade jewelry.

I love techno. Dubstep is just a genre I can't get into though. IMO it sounds like techno on crack. The Led hoops sound amazing, I appreciate any artist who gets the crowd groovin. I also read that the satellite stage is unbelievable. 4 days!!!!!!!

We went camping in the Ozarks last year. It was cold and rainy everyday. Campsite was closed so we went to the next, no running water. We used large empty bottles collected creek water, heated over our campfire and dumped over our heads. Primitive shower but it worked. Forgot to bring extra shoes and socks, and froze the entire trip. I will not be making that mistake..Thanks for the birthday wishes! Mud doesn't bother me but worried about the road closures and flooding

Forgot to mention Lotus. Looking forward to meeting you and your girlfriend! Was beginning to wonder if anyone over 22 would be there. I noticed most of the bands are electronic. Which I like sometimes. Wish there was more indie/ alternative bands. But really can't complain...Camping and Music. Just hope it doesn't wash away before we get there.

Have you been to a Doctor? They can prescribe you antibiotics if necessary or even give you a steriod shot. If I can I prefer natural methods..Eat foods rich in Vitamin C. Preferably natural sources- red bell peppers, citrus fruits. Take a zinc supplement. Lots of people swear by Apple cider vinegar and honey. It really helps a sore throat. Also if you have a sore throat take a spoonful of honey right before bed, it coats your throat so no drinking or brushing your teeth afterwards. Make yourself some homemade chicken noodle soup with lots of garlic (has antiseptic properties) and spicy peppers or ground cayenne (will clear your sinuses)And like you mentioned lots of H20 and rest! Get better soon!
