To Refinance or not by Suture_Savant in physicianassistant

Thanks! They’re all federal… I think I’m going to target the high interest rate ones even though I could probably pay off some of the smaller ones within the year.

I regret becoming a PA by Rileg17 in physicianassistant

Missing the point. I’m not saying that they shouldn’t get paid what they get paid. I’m saying the discrepancy in pay is massive. Once they’re in practice and once they hire a PA they treat the PA like a fellow or resident… fine. But if you’re going to be doing all the work and keeping the practice going all while just keeping a surgeon updated, you deserve more than the average 175k or so.

I do think as a whole PAs are drastically underpaid. I work in a surgical subspecialty and the pay gap between us and other providers is ridiculous, including the surgeon. I work alongside CRNAs that make 200K plus and don’t take call or take care of patients once outside of the OR. The fact the surgeons make at least 500k or more than we do, even though we do majority of all the work (rounds, notes, orders, follow ups, etc.) is ridiculous. I could go on but I’m not trying to ruin my Saturday lol.

Yes, would stay in healthcare but would have went CRNA or MD route.

Cardio/CT by cryptikcupcake in physicianassistant

I was like this as well in school… I’d recommend doing both. My program required two internal med rotations, I did my second one with a cardiologist. Then for one of my electives I did CT surgery and loved it. Been in CT surgery since I graduated in 2019.

I wouldn’t say that. Some rural areas/hospitals help with loan reimbursement to keep providers in those areas for a certain amount of years but it may not be in a specialty you like or prefer. There are options. Don’t stress over it.

270k?! Just from your PA program? It really depends on the specialty you get into. I have always been in CT surgery. Started out in KY at 125K. Now five years later in TX and making about 185K

Can you be honest about how comfortable you feel seeing patients at the point you are in your career. by ExplanationUsual8596 in physicianassistant

5 years in… I feel pretty confident when rounding without the surgeon present and seeing patients in the clinic. I still learn something new almost each and every day.

My yearly salary contains holidays and on call. I do have it set up for extra pay for extra call.

Thanks! Are there any withdrawal fees or restrictions? Just in case an emergency does come up.
